The instability of palladium-based binary alloys hinders their wide application in the oxygen reduction processes. Here, we prepared Mo-doped PdCu nanoparticles with controllable dopant content and valence. Further research has revealed that Mo, particularly Mo, may effectively suppress the oxidation of Pd and Cu, optimize the oxygen binding of Pd, and increase catalytic activity and stability. In particular, Mo-PdCu-1/C with the highest Mo content shows the best oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) mass activity (1.20 A mg), which is 4.8 times higher than that of PdCu/C. It also exhibits outstanding stability, retaining 80.8% of the original mass activity after 20 000 cycles. This study clearly explains the mechanism by which Mo doping affects the performance and provides a reference for further optimization of catalyst performance for fuel cell industrialization.

Effects of endophytes on early growth and ascorbate metabolism in .

Front Plant Sci

December 2024

Department of Plant Biology, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, United States.

Understanding the early interactions between plants and endophytes will contribute to a more systematic approach to enhancing endophyte-mediated effects on plant growth and environmental stress resistance. This study examined very early growth and ascorbate metabolism after seed treatment of with three different endophytes. The three endophytes used were pb1(Bapb1), (Ml) and SLB4 (SLB4).

Repeated hyperbaric oxygen exposure accelerates fatigue and impairs SR-calcium release in mice.

J Appl Physiol (1985)

Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Environmental Physiology, Department of Anesthesiology, Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, NC, 27710, USA.

Breathing hyperoxic gas is common in diving and accelerates fatigue after prolonged and repeated exposure. The mechanism(s) remain unknown but may be related to increased oxidants that interfere with skeletal muscle calcium trafficking or impair aerobic ATP production. To determine these possibilities, C57BL/6J mice were exposed to hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) for 4-h on three consecutive days or remained in room air.

In aerobic life forms, reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced by the partial reduction of oxygen during energy-generating metabolic processes. In plants, ROS production increases during periods of both abiotic and biotic stress, severely overloading the antioxidant systems. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) plays a central role in cellular redox homeostasis and signaling by oxidising crucial cysteines to sulfenic acid, which is considered a biologically relevant post-translational modification (PTM).

Nanostructured Pt-based catalysts have attracted considerable attention for fuel-cell applications. This study introduces a novel one-pot and low-temperature polyol approach for synthesizing support-free, connected nanoparticles with non-Pt metal cores and Pt shells. Unlike conventional heat treatment methods, the developed support-free and Fe-free connected Pd@Pt (Pd@Pt) nanoparticle catalyst possesses a stable nanonetwork structure with a high surface area.

MOE Medical Basic Research Innovation Center for Gut Microbiota and Chronic Diseases, Wuxi School of Medicine, Jiangnan University, Wuxi, China.

Background: Lipid metabolism is crucial in cancer progression. Lipid droplets (LDs) generated in cancer cells can act as protective mechanisms through alleviating lipotoxicity under stress conditions. We previously developed IC2 from the Chinese medicine icaritin as an inhibitor of stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1).
