Improving the performance of metasurface optical elements has become an increasingly important element of the ongoing quest toward their practical applications. One of the primary challenges is how to suppress light reflections across an entire metasurface. Such reflections are the source of undesirable noise, so their suppression is especially critical in imaging and optical communication applications.

Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are one of the most promising tools in the quest to develop general artificial intelligence. Their design was inspired by how neurons in natural brains connect and process, the only other substrate to harbor intelligence. Compared to biological brains that are sparsely connected and that form sparsely distributed representations, ANNs instead process information by connecting all nodes of one layer to all nodes of the next.

Left atrial (LA) hypertension is central in the pathophysiology of heart failure (HF) in general and of HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) in particular. Despite approved treatments, a number of HF patients continue experiencing disabling symptoms due to LA hypertension, causing pulmonary congestion, pulmonary hypertension, and right heart dysfunction, at rest and/or during exercise. LA decompression therapies, i.

Wounds are regarded as disruptions in the integrity of human skin tissues, and the process of wound healing is often characterized as protracted and complex, primarily due to the potential infection or inflammation caused by microorganisms. The quest for innovative solutions that accelerate wound healing while prioritizing patient safety and comfort has emerged as a focal point. Within this pursuit, silkworm silk fibroin-a natural polymer extracted from silk cocoons-exhibits a distinctive combination of properties including biocompatibility, biodegradability, superior mechanical strength, water absorption, and low immunogenicity, which align closely with the demands of contemporary wound care.
