This article is the first of three projected IUPAC Technical Reports resulting from IUPAC Project 2011-037-2-100 (Reference Materials for Phase Equilibrium Studies). The goal of that project was to select reference systems with critically evaluated property values for the validation of instruments and techniques used in phase equilibrium studies for mixtures. This Report proposes seven systems for liquid-liquid equilibrium studies, covering the four most common categories of binary mixtures: aqueous systems of moderate solubility, non-aqueous systems, systems with low solubility, and systems with ionic liquids. For each system, the available literature sources, accepted data, smoothing equations, and estimated uncertainties are given.

The adsorption and aggregation of amphiphiles at different solvent interfaces are of great scientific and technological importance. In this study, interfacial tension measurements of surface-active compounds-ionic liquid 2-dodecyl-2,2dimethylethanolammonium bromide (12Cho.Br) and cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)-were conducted both in the absence and presence of ciprofloxacin (CIP).

Refinement of the Sugar Puckering Torsion Potential in the AMBER DNA Force Field.

J Chem Theory Comput

Department of Physical Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Palacky University, 17. listopadu 12, Olomouc 77146, Czech Republic.

The transition from B-DNA to A-DNA occurs in many protein-DNA interactions or in DNA/RNA hybrid duplexes, and thus plays a role in many important biomolecular processes that convey the biological function of DNA. However, the stability of A-DNA is severely underestimated in current AMBER force fields such as OL15, OL21 or bsc1, potentially leading to unstable or deformed protein-DNA complexes. In this study, we refine the deoxyribose dihedral potential to increase the stability of the north (N) puckering present in A-DNA.

Under various atmospheric conditions, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a powerful technique for elemental analysis, including in Earth- and Mars-like environments. However, understanding the plasma behavior and its dependence on ambient pressure and laser parameters remains a challenge. In this study, a numerical model based on a three-temperature Eulerian radiation framework under non-local thermodynamic equilibrium conditions is employed to investigate the interaction of a nanosecond laser pulse with a graphite target under helium (He) and carbon dioxide (CO atmospheres.

Evaluation of Brain Impairment Using Proton Exchange Rate MRI in a Kainic Acid-Induced Rat Model of Epilepsy.

Mol Imaging Biol

January 2025

Paul C. Lauterbur Research Center for Biomedical Imaging, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China.

Purpose: Proton exchange rate (K) is a valuable biophysical metric. K MRI may augment conventional structural MRI by revealing brain impairments at the molecular level. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of K MRI in evaluating brain injuries at multiple epilepsy stages.

The pervasive model for a solvated, ion-filled nanopore is often a resistor in parallel with a capacitor. For conical nanopore geometries, here we propose the inclusion of a Warburg-like element, which is necessary to explain otherwise anomalous observations such as negative capacitance and low-pass filtering of translocation events (we term this phenomenon as Warburg filtering). The negative capacitance observed here has long equilibration times and memory (that is, mem-capacitance) at negative voltages.
