This contribution describes the path of my nearly forty-year quest to understand the special ligand coordinated to molybdenum and tungsten ions in their respective enzymes. Through this quest, I aimed to discover why nature did not simply use a methyl group on the dithiolene that chelates Mo and W but instead chose a complicated pyranopterin. My journey sought answers through the synthesis of model Mo compounds that allowed systematic investigations of the interactions between molybdenum and pterin and molybdenum and pterin-dithiolene and revealed special features of the pyranopterin dithiolene chelate bound to molybdenum.

Steam turbine blades may crack, break, or suffer other failures due to high temperatures, high pressures, and high-speed rotation, which seriously threatens the safety and reliability of the equipment. The signal characteristics of different fault types are slightly different, making it difficult to accurately classify the faults of rotating blades directly through vibration signals. This method combines a one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1DCNN) and a channel attention mechanism (CAM).

We have developed a United framework that integrates three self-supervised learning (SSL) ingredients (discriminative, restorative, and adversarial learning), enabling collaborative learning among the three learning ingredients and yielding three transferable components: a discriminative encoder, a restorative decoder, and an adversary encoder. To leverage this collaboration, we redesigned nine prominent self-supervised methods, including Rotation, Jigsaw, Rubik's Cube, Deep Clustering, TransVW, MoCo, BYOL, PCRL, and Swin UNETR, and augmented each with its missing components in a United framework for 3D medical imaging. However, such a United framework increases model complexity, making 3D pretraining difficult.

This work reports the construction of an HIV-specific genosensor through the modification of carbon screen-printed electrodes (CSPE) with graphene quantum dots decorated with L-cysteine and gold nanoparticles (cys-GQDs/AuNps). Cys-GQDs were characterized by FT-IR and UV-vis spectra and electronic properties of the modified electrodes were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The modification of the electrode surface with cys-GQDs and AuNps increased the electrochemical performance of the electrode, improving the electron transfer of the anionic redox probe [Fe(CN)] on the electrochemical platform.

Single-atom catalysts (SACs) are a promising area in environmental catalysis. We report on a bimetallic Co-Mo SAC that shows excellent performance in activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for sustainable degradation of organic pollutants with high ionization potential (IP > 8.5 eV).
