Polyaniline (PANI) is among the most widely studied conducting polymers due to its potential technological applications in various fields. Recently, PANI-based hybrid materials have played an important role in the development of energy storage and conversion systems. The aim of the present work is the investigation of the simultaneous electrochemical growth of PANI and TaO on the Ta substrate and the characterization of the morphology, redox behavior and pseudocapacitive properties of the resulting micro- or nanostructured composite thin films. A well-adherent conductive TaO-PANI composite film was first formed using cyclic voltammetry on Ta that facilitates the on-top electrodeposition of single PANI via an autocatalytic mechanism. The electrochemical characterization of the Ta|TaO-PANI|PANI electrodes reveals unique redox properties of PANI not shown previously upon using PANI electrodeposition on Ta. Scanning electron microscopy shows that the morphology of the electrodeposited films comprises nano- or microspheres that may develop into nano- or microrods when the polymerization proceeds. Preliminary evaluation of the capacitive properties of the Ta|TaO-PANI|PANI electrode shows adequately high specific capacitance values as high as 1130 F g (at 9.2 mA cm), depending on the electrochemical parameters, as well as adequate stability (~80% retention after 100 cycles), indicating their potential application as energy storage devices.

Technetium-99m plays a pivotal role in nuclear medicine, offering unique IMAGING capabilities due to its favorable physical and chemical properties. This study investigates the redox behavior and electronic structures of three representative Tc(V) oxo complexes, [TcO(HMPAO)], [TcO(Bicisate)], and [TcO(DMSA)], using computational techniques. Employing relativistic density functional theory with the Zero-Order Regular Approximation (ZORA), we analyze singlet-triplet energy gaps, Gibbs free energy changes, and redox potentials in neutral and acidic environments.

Global healthcare systems are under tremendous strain due to the increasing prevalence of neurodegenerative disorders. Growing data suggested that overconsumption of high-fat/high-carbohydrates diet (HFHCD) is associated with enhanced incidence of metabolic alterations, neurodegeneration, and cognitive dysfunction. Functional foods have gained prominence in curbing metabolic and neurological deficits.

Electronic coupling between individual redox units in a molecular assembly dictates their charge transfer efficacy. Being a well-defined crystalline structure, the metal-organic framework (MOF) ensures proper positioning of redox-active moieties and provides a unique platform to unveil their charge transfer dynamics and quantification with structural relationships. Here, we demonstrate a novel redox-active MOF with near-infrared through-space intervalence charge transfer by introducing a mixed valence state inside redox-active thiazolothiazole-based ligands (DPTTZ) upon photo- or electrochemical reduction.

Background: Androgenic anabolic steroids (AASs) are synthetic drugs structurally related to testosterone, with the ability to bind to androgen receptors. Their uncontrolled use by professional and recreational sportspeople is a widespread problem. AAS abuse is correlated with severe damage to the cardiovascular system, including changes in homeostasis and coagulation disorders.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the most prevalent cause of mortality and morbidity in the Western world. A common underlying hallmark of CVD is the plaque-associated arterial thickening, termed atherosclerosis. Although the molecular mechanisms underlying the aetiology of atherosclerosis remain unknown, it is clear that both its development and progression are associated with significant changes in the pattern of DNA methylation within the vascular cell wall.
