Background: There have been many reports on replantation of complete auricle amputation, but few reports on successful replantation of partial auricle amputation. The main reason is that the diameter of blood vessels at the end of auricle is only 0.3 mm, and it is difficult to find suitable blood vessels, especially venous vessels. The purpose of this study was to investigate the method of revascularization after partial auricle amputation.

Methods: Microvascular repairs were performed in an amputated segment with only identified artery vessels for anastomosis, and vein was unavailable for anastomosis. Postoperative acupuncture bloodletting and heparin compress treatments were planned.

Results: Two patients with partial ear amputation were treated at our center between 2019 and 2021. All the amputated ear were replanted successfully. No blood transfusions and no infections were observed. A week later the replanted auricles were seen, blood flow established.

Conclusion: Microvascular repair should be considered as the best options in cases of auricular avulsion segment replantation. When no vein was available for anastomosis, only one artery repaired was feasible. Acupuncture bloodletting and heparin compress are the effective methods to treat vein congestion.

Objective: To investigate clinical staging systems and appropriate treatment strategies for external auditory canal cholesteatoma (EACC).

Methods: We performed comparative analysis of the features of several staging schemes (Holt, Naim, Shin, Chang, Kaneda, Hn, and He) of EACC; retrospective analysis of the clinical data of 44 patients with primary EACC, and analyzed the prognosis.

Results: He's staging system (2019) was found to be particularly clear and practical.

The Pillars Concept: An Approach for Managing Hypertrophic Concha in Otoplasty.

Facial Plast Surg

December 2024

Private Practice, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Mallorca, Spain.

Prominent ear deformities often result from a combination of hypertrophic conchal cartilage and an underdeveloped antihelical fold. Traditional otoplasty techniques, such as antihelical folding sutures and conchal setback maneuvers, may introduce tension and risk of relapse, leading to suboptimal aesthetic outcomes. The PILLARS CONCEPT: represents an alternative surgical approach specifically designed to address hypertrophic concha, ensuring stable and natural results.

Management of Facial Nerve Schwannoma Occluding the External Auditory Canal.

Laryngoscope

Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Boston, Massachusetts, 02114, U.S.A.

Facial nerve schwannomas (FNSs) eroding through the external auditory canal (EAC) are unusual and present difficult management options. When facial nerve function is normal, observation is generally recommended. If the tumor completely obstructs the EAC creating a conductive hearing loss as in this case, mapping of the motor fibers of the facial nerve may be considered with partial resection to alleviate the conductive hearing loss.

Porcine ear necrosis in nursery piglets is preceded by oral manipulations of the ear.

Porcine Health Manag

November 2024

Department of Internal Medicine, Reproduction and Population Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium.

Background: Porcine ear necrosis (PEN) is characterized by dry crusts on the ear tip. The crusts often progress to moist and bloody lesions and may lead to partial loss of the ear tissue. The cause and pathophysiology of PEN are unknown.
