The P 5(3) strain is a potential degrader of persistent perfluorinated pollutants, particularly C-C perfluorinated acids. The genome of the strain has been fully sequenced. It consists of a chromosome with a length of 5,676,241 base pairs and a G-C content of 64.38%.

This work used pulsed electrical discharge plasma to treat undiluted Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) solution that contained significant quantities of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The plasma was generated within a plasma spinning disc reactor (PSDR), which utilizes the electric breakdown of argon gas to create plasma over a thin liquid film generated on a spinning disc. The PSDR performance toward degradation of AFFF constituents such as fluorotelomers, perfluorinated C-C alkyl acids, and unidentified precursors was investigated.

The thermal decomposition of per- and poly fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is poorly understood. Here, we present an innovative, comprehensive analytical method to investigate their thermal decomposition, including perfluorocarboxylic acids (PFCAs), alcohol, sulfonates, and GenX (acid dimer), focusing on identifying their breakdown products. In this study, evolved gas analysis-mass spectrometry (EGA-MS) was used for fast real-time screening to determine the significant temperatures to be investigated with the thermal desorption-pyrolysis coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (TD-Py-GC-MS), which provided detailed information about evolved PFAS and their breakdown products.

Nanofiltration (NF) effectively removes per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from water but struggles with short-chain PFAS (i.e., those containing less than 6 perfluorinated carbons) due to size exclusion inefficiency.

The demand for efficient separation techniques in industries dealing with high viscosity emulsions has surged due to their widespread applications in various scenarios, including emulsion-based drug delivery systems, the removal of emulsified impurities in formulations and oil spill remediation. However, membrane fouling is a major challenge for conventional separation methods, leading to decreased efficiency and increased maintenance costs. Herein, a novel approach is reported by constructing liquid-like surfaces with double anti-fouling structure, incorporating soft nanomicelles within a rigid, chemically cross-linked network for both anti-membrane-fouling and effective viscous water-in-oil emulsion separation.

Rationale: Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) like perfluorooctanoic acid have persistent environmental and physiological effects. This study investigates the degradation of CFCO (n = 1-7) with neutral radical fragmentation under oxygen attachment dissociation (OAD). Unique fragments absent from collision-induced dissociation (CID) are observed.
