With the widespread application of computer technology in engineering education, Online Judge (OJ) systems have become an important platform for programming teaching. OJ systems provide a platform for learners to practice programming skills, submit solutions, and receive feedback. They offer a conducive environment for learners to engage in hands-on coding exercises and enhance their programming abilities. This article explores the use of OJ systems as a software tool for enhancing programming education in engineering. It investigates how the difficulty and order of programming problems affect the users' behavior, performance, and cognitive load in OJ environments. The research data were sourced from Project_CodeNet. Using statistical methods, such as Spearman correlation analysis and differential analysis, the study reveals the factors that influence the users' submission situations, answer order, and learning outcomes. The findings provide useful implications for OJ system developers, teachers, and learners in designing, implementing, and using OJ systems for programming education in engineering. The study suggests that problem difficulty and order should be considered and adjusted according to the users' abilities and progress, to provide appropriate challenges and support, balance the cognitive load, and improve the programming skills of the users.

Background: Compassion-focused therapy (CFT) is a psychological intervention that is increasingly used in UK NHS services, either in an individual or a group format, with individuals experiencing psychological difficulties. Reviews of the quantitative evidence suggest that CFT effectively improves psychological well-being in various clinical groups. Participant experiences of group CFT in those with psychological difficulties have also been explored in several published qualitative and mixed-methods studies.

Background: As an increasing number of patients with both lung cancer and coronary artery disease (CAD) are being discovered, doctors face great challenges in treating this group. Off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) combined with simultaneous radical surgery for lung cancer has become an option at some institutions. Missense mutations that disrupt protein structural stability are a common pathogenic mechanism in human genetic disease. Here, we quantify potential disruption of protein stability due to amino acid substitution and show that functionally constrained proteins are less susceptible to large mutational changes in stability. Mechanistically, this relates to greater intrinsic disorder among constrained proteins and to increased B-factors in the ordered regions of constrained proteins.

The simplest possible informational heteropolymer requires only a two-letter alphabet to be able to store information. The evolutionary choice of four monomers in the informational biomolecules RNA/DNA or their progenitors is intriguing, given the inherent difficulties in the simultaneous and localized prebiotic synthesis of all four monomers of progenitors of RNA/DNA from common precursors on early Earth. Excluding the scenario where a two-letter alphabet genome eventually expanded to include two more letters to code for more amino acids on teleological grounds, we show here that a replicatively superior heteropolymer sequence in an RNA-world-like scenario would have to be composed of at least four letters in order to predictably fold into a specific secondary structure, and hence must have out-competed the two-letter alphabet genomes.

Watson syndrome is a rare genetic condition partly characterised by developmental delays and learning difficulties. A profile of speech and language skills associated with this developmental syndrome is yet to be described in the literature. In order to address this gap, this study presents the case of an 18-year-old man with Watson syndrome and reports both standardised and naturalistic assessments of speech, language, oro-motor skills, and semantic and phonemic fluency.
