Atmospheric deposition of particulate organic nitrogen (ON) is a significant process in the global nitrogen cycle and may be pivotally important for N-limited ecosystems. However, past models largely overlooked the spatial and chemical inhomogeneity of atmospheric ON and were thus deficient in assessing global ON impacts. We constructed a comprehensive global model of atmospheric gaseous and particulate organic nitrogen (ON), including the latest knowledge on emissions and secondary formations. Using this model, we simulated global atmospheric ON abundances consistent with observations. Our estimated global atmospheric ON deposition was 26 Tg N yr, predominantly in the form of ON (23 Tg N yr) and mostly from wildfires (37%), oceans (22%) and aqueous productions (17%). Globally, ON contributed as much as 40% to 80% of the total N deposition downwind of biomass-burning regions. Atmospheric ON deposition thus constituted the dominant external N supply to the N-limited boreal forests, tundras and the Arctic Ocean, and its importance may be amplified in a future warming climate.

The circadian clock mediates metabolic functions of plants and rhythmically shapes structure and function of microbial communities in the rhizosphere. However, it is unclear how the circadian rhythm of plant hosts regulates changes in rhizosphere bacterial and fungal communities and nutrient cycles. In the present study, we measured diel changes in the rhizosphere of bacterial and fungal communities, and in nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) cycling in 20-year-old tea plantations.

Introduction: Functional traits of desert plants exhibit remarkable responsiveness, adaptability and plasticity to environmental heterogeneity.

Methods: In this study, we measured six crucial plant functional traits (leaf carbon, leaf nitrogen, leaf phosphorus, leaf thickness, chlorophyll concentration, and plant height) and employed exemplar analysis to elucidate the effects of soil environmental heterogeneity on intraspecific traits variation in the high-moisture-salinity and low-moisture-salinity habitats of the Ebinur LakeWetland National Nature Reserve.

Results: The results showed that (1) The soil moisture and electrical conductivity heterogeneity showed significant differences between the two moisture-salinity habitats.

Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) is an important indicator for assessing the merit of natural plants and foods. Herein, a visual TAC assay is developed based on the oxidase-like activity of nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes loaded with Fe nanoparticles (FeNPs@NCNT), which is prepared via high-temperature pyrolysis of metal-organic framework precursors and can catalyze the oxidation of colorless -phenylenediamine (OPD) to colored 2,3-diaminophenazine (DAP). The addition of antioxidants (e.

Population growth in coastal areas increases nitrogen inputs to receiving waterways and degrades water quality. Wetland habitats, including floodplain forests and marshes, can be effective nitrogen sinks; however, little is known about the effects of chronic point source nutrient enrichment on sediment nitrogen removal in tidally influenced coastal systems. This study characterizes enrichment patterns in two tidal systems affected by wastewater treatment facility (WWTF) effluent and assesses the impact on habitat nitrogen removal via denitrification.

A pyrrole-fused analogue of warped nanographene, designated as deca-nitrogen doped 'WNG' (azaWNG), was synthesized through the annular fusion of decapyrroylcorannulene. The resulting azaWNG exhibited extremely limited solubility in common organic solvents and was characterized solely by mass spectrometry. Theoretical calculations revealed that azaWNG has a sunflower-like molecular structure with electron-deficient corannulene as the core and electron-rich pyrrole as the petals, demonstrating a significantly narrower energy gap compared to all-carbon WNG.
