The phenotypic switching of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) is regarded as the first step in vascular pathology and contributes to arterial remodeling. Exosomes facilitate the transfer and exchange of proteins and specific nucleic acids, thereby playing a significant role in intercellular communication.
