The present study was carried out to determine the antitumor and antioxidant activities of the seaweed Durvillaea antarctica. Extraction and purification of polysaccharides from D. antarctica were performed. They were characterized by FT-IR and GC-MS, identifying isomers of arabinose, fucose, mannose, and galactose. The antioxidant capacity of polysaccharides was analyzed using the ABTS method (14.3 ± 0.5 μmol TE g PS) and the DPPH method (21.82 ± 0.32 μmol TE g PS). The antitumor capacity of polysaccharides was studied by MTT colorimetric assays in human leukemia, colon, breast, and lung cancer cell lines, obtaining the lowest IC in colon cancer (19.99 μg mL ). In the line of healthy human gingival fibroblasts (HGF-1), an IC of 444.39 μg mL was obtained. Flow cytometry in the HL60 cell line showed that polysaccharides at concentrations higher than IC inhibited cell proliferation, demonstrating a possible antitumor capacity in vitro. In the proteomic analysis with HGF-1, nine proteins involved in different biological processes were identified. In conclusion, polysaccharides from D. antarctica could be considered powerful nutraceuticals, mainly against colon cancer.

Background: Ropivacaine (Rop) is a local anesthetic that is widely used but is also potentially harmful. Quercetin (Quer) is a flavonoid component found in many plants and traditional Chinese medicines. It possesses anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, and neuroprotective properties as a pharmaceutical.

These cells and surrounding ECM create a stiff, hypoxic, acidic, and immunosuppressive microenvironment that can augment the resistance of lung tumors to different forms of cell death and facilitate invasion and metastasis. This environment can induce chemo/radiotherapy resistance by inducing anti-apoptosis mediators such as phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt, signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), and nuclear factor of κB (NF-κB), leading to the exhaustion of antitumor immunity and further resistance to chemo/radiotherapy.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) has become a disease of global concern due to its high morbidity and mortality. This has highlighted the need for renoprotective agents. Astragaloside IV (AS-IV) is a saponin isolated from Astragalus membranaceus with good antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor properties.

Introduction: The acidic microenvironment caused by excessive lactate accumulation could inhibit immune lymphocytes antitumor activity and promote the immune escape of tumor cells. Baicalin is an active flavonoid isolated from Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, a traditional Chinese medicinal herb with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Objectives: The present study aims to investigate whether and how baicalin inhibits oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) acidic microenvironment and attenuates immune escape.
