The precision of imaging and the number of other risk-assessing and diagnostic methods are constantly growing, allowing for the uptake of additional strategies for individualized therapies. Personalized medicine has the potential to deliver more adequate treatment, resulting in better clinical outcomes, based on each patient's vulnerability or genetic makeup. In addition to increased efficiency, costs related to this type of procedure can be significantly lower.

Background/objectives: Inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) represent a diverse group of genetic disorders characterized by degeneration of the retina, leading to visual impairment and blindness. IRDs are heterogeneous, sharing common clinical features that can be difficult to diagnose without knowing the genetic basis of the disease. To improve diagnostic accuracy and advance understanding of disease mechanisms, genetic testing was performed for 103 unrelated patients with an IRD at a single clinical site between 30 August 2022 and 5 February 2024.

Purpose: To comprehensively evaluate the tilt of the crystalline lens in phakic eyes and its relationship with optical biometry parameters.

Setting: The retrospective analysis was conducted at the Department for Ophthalmology and Optometry, Kepler University Clinic in Linz, Austria.

Design: Lens tilt assessment was performed through a combined analysis of optical biometry (IOL Master 700) and anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) data to understand its relationship.

Intraoperative Augmented Reality for Vitreoretinal Surgery Using Edge Computing.

J Pers Med

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN 55905, USA.

: Augmented reality (AR) may allow vitreoretinal surgeons to leverage microscope-integrated digital imaging systems to analyze and highlight key retinal anatomic features in real time, possibly improving safety and precision during surgery. By employing convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for retina vessel segmentation, a retinal coordinate system can be created that allows pre-operative images of capillary non-perfusion or retinal breaks to be digitally aligned and overlayed upon the surgical field in real time. Such technology may be useful in assuring thorough laser treatment of capillary non-perfusion or in using pre-operative optical coherence tomography (OCT) to guide macular surgery when microscope-integrated OCT (MIOCT) is not available.

The overuse of antibiotics has led to the severe contamination of water bodies, posing a considerable hazard to human health. Therefore, the development of an accurate and rapid point-of-care testing (POCT) platform for the quantitative detection of antibiotics is necessary. In this study, Cerium oxide (CeO) and Ferrosoferric oxide (FeO) nanoparticles were simultaneously encapsulated into N-doped nanofibrous carbon microspheres to form of a novel nanozyme (CeFe-NCMzyme) with a porous structure, high surface area, and N-doped carbon material properties, leading to a considerable enhancement of the peroxidase (POD)-like activity compared with that of the CeO or FeO nanoparticles alone.
