Background & Objective: Leptin is an adipocyte-derived hormone with a critical role in energy balance. As demonstrated by previous investigations, leptin acts as a proliferative and angiogenic factor in cancer cells. However, results regarding its role in colorectal cancer are still inconclusive. We aimed to evaluate serum leptin and tissue expression of leptin receptor (Ob-R) in normal and malignant samples of colorectal.
Methods: Serum and tissue samples from pathology-confirmed colorectal cancer patients and normal controls referring to a university hospital of Mazandaran were obtained during 2019-21. ELISA and immunohistochemistry were applied to determine leptin and Ob-R expression respectively.
Results: A total of 90 samples belonging to 46 normal and 44 CRC patients were enrolled. Normal and CRC groups included 32 (69.56%) and 21 (47.72%) female subjects respectively. The average leptin concentration in the normal group was 115.80 and, in the patient, group was 124.47 ng/mL (=0.897). CRC cases showed an insignificantly higher Ob-R detection rate (=0.086).
Conclusion: There was no significant difference in leptin and Ob-R expression between CRC patients and normal subjects. Thus, leptin and its receptor may not be useful as a biomarker of CRC.

Introduction: Effects of Dapagliflozin (Dapa) and Dapagliflozin-Saxagliptin combination (Combo) was examined on peripheral blood derived CD34 + Hematopoetic Stem Cells (HSCs) as a cellular CVD biomarker. Both Dapa (a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 or SGLT2, receptor inhibitor) and Saxagliptin (a Di-peptydl-peptidase-4 or DPP4 enzyme inhibitor) are commonly used type 2 diabetes mellitus or T2DM medications, however the benefit of using the combination has not been evaluated for cardio-renal risk assessment, in a real-life practice setting, compared to a placebo.
Hypothesis: We hypothesized that Dapa will improve the outcomes when compared to placebo and the Combo maybe even more beneficial.

The balance between food intake and energy expenditure is precisely regulated to maintain adipose stores. Leptin, which is produced in and released from adipose in direct proportion to its size, is a major contributor to this control and initiates its homeostatic responses largely via binding to leptin receptors (LepR) in the hypothalamus. Decreases in hypothalamic LepR binding signals starvation, leading to hunger and reduced energy expenditure, whereas increases in hypothalamic LepR binding can suppress food intake and increase energy expenditure.

Aims: Vertebrates vary greatly in their abilities to regenerate injured hearts. Zebrafish possess a remarkable capacity for cardiac regeneration, making them an excellent model for regeneration research. Recent studies have reported the activation and underlying regulatory mechanisms of leptin b (lepb) and the leptin b-linked enhancer (LEN) in injured hearts.

Background: The inheritance of the short allele, encoding the serotonin transporter (SERT) in humans, increases susceptibility to neuropsychiatric and metabolic disorders, with aging and female sex further exacerbating these conditions. Both central and peripheral mechanisms of the compromised serotonin (5-HT) system play crucial roles in this context. Previous studies on SERT-deficient (Sert) mice, which model human SERT deficiency, have demonstrated emotional and metabolic disturbances, exacerbated by exposure to a high-fat Western diet (WD).

The ability to reproduce depends on metabolic status. In rodents, the ventral premammillary nucleus (PMv) integrates metabolic and reproductive signals. While leptin (adiposity-related) signaling in the PMv is critical for female fertility, male reproductive functions are strongly influenced by glucose homeostasis.
