Peptide-Functionalized Prussian Blue Nanomaterial for Antioxidant Stress and NIR Photothermal Therapy against Alzheimer's Disease.

Key Laboratory of Environmental Medicine Engineering of Ministry of Education, School of Public Health, Southeast University, Nanjing, 210009, P. R. China.

Excessive accumulations of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and amyloid-β (Aβ) protein are closely associated with the complex pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Therefore, approaches that synergistically exert elimination of ROS and dissociation of Aβ fibrils are effective therapeutic strategies for correcting the AD microenvironment. Herein, a novel near infrared (NIR) responsive Prussian blue-based nanomaterial (PBK NPs) is established with excellent antioxidant activity and photothermal effect.

Purpose: To investigate the causes of bullous keratopathy (BK) in the Korean population and analyze the results of penetrating keratoplasty (PK) in BK eyes associated with the top two causes: pseudophakic bullous keratopathy (PBK) and glaucoma surgery-associated BK (GBK).

Methods: Medical records were reviewed of patients diagnosed with BK at a tertiary referral center between 2010 and 2020. The predisposing conditions, clinical characteristics and therapeutic outcomes after PK were analyzed and compared.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at the changes in corneal transplantation practices over a 21-year period (2000-2020) in a French ophthalmology department, noting significant increases in annual transplant numbers.
  • Initially, penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) was the only method used, but newer techniques like Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) and Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) were introduced, leading to a surge in their usage.
  • The research also highlighted a shift in the most common conditions treated with corneal transplants, with an increased focus on pseudophakic bullous keratopathy (PBK) and Fuchs endothelial cell dystrophy (FECD

The development of non-animal-based new approach methodologies (NAMs) for chemical risk assessment and safety evaluation is urgently needed. The aim of the present study was to investigate the applicability of an in vitro-in silico approach to predict human cardiotoxicity of the herbal alkaloid ibogaine and its metabolite noribogaine, which are promising anti-addiction drugs. Physiologically based kinetic (PBK) models were developed using in silico-derived parameters and biokinetic data obtained from in vitro liver microsomal incubations and Caco-2 transport studies.
