The prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is on the rise globally, and everyone who develops AD eventually experiences mild cognitive impairment (MCI) first. Timely intervention at an early stage of the disease may mitigate disease progression. Recent studies indicate that BDNF and MMP-9 play a significant role in the pathogenesis of AD.

Phosphorylation of SNW1 protein associated with equine melanocytic neoplasm identified in serum and feces.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Department of Clinical Science and Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Mahidol University, Salaya, Puttamonthon, Nakhon Pathom, 73170, Thailand.

Equine melanocytic neoplasm (EMN) represents a form of skin tumor observed predominantly in grey horses aged over 15 years. Despite its prevalence, current therapeutic and preventive strategies for EMN have been subject to limited investigation. This study endeavors to shed light on potential phosphoproteins present in equine serum and fecal samples, potentially linked to EMN, with a specific focus on functional interactions in EMN pathogenesis.

Development of an accurate breast cancer detection classifier based on platelet RNA.

Sci Rep

December 2024

School of Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University, Xiamen University, Xiamen, Fujian, China.

Platelets possess cancer-induced reprogramming properties, thereby contributing to RNA profile alterations and further cancer progression, while the former is considered a promising biosource for cancer detection. Hence, tumor-educated platelets (TEP) are considered a prospective novel method for early breast cancer (BC) screening. Our study integrated the data from 276 patients with untreated BC, 95 with benign disease controls, 214 healthy controls, and 2 who underwent mastectomy in Chinese and European cohorts to develop a 10-biomarker diagnostic model.

Multimodal Deep Learning Fusing Clinical and Radiomics Scores for Prediction of Early-Stage Lung Adenocarcinoma Lymph Node Metastasis.

Acad Radiol

December 2024

School of Public Health, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, Nanchang 330006, China (C.X., L.D., W.C., M.H.); Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Disease Prevention and Public Health, Nanchang University, Nanchang 330006, China (C.X., L.D., W.C., M.H.). Electronic address:

Rationale And Objectives: To develop and validate a multimodal deep learning (DL) model based on computed tomography (CT) images and clinical knowledge to predict lymph node metastasis (LNM) in early lung adenocarcinoma.

Materials And Methods: A total of 724 pathologically confirmed early invasive lung adenocarcinoma patients were retrospectively included from two centers. Clinical and CT semantic features of the patients were collected, and 3D radiomics features were extracted from nonenhanced CT images.
