Introduction: A soft tissue aneurysmal bone cyst is an extremely rare tumor. The objective of the article is to present the clinical, radiological, and histopathological features of a very unusual neoplasm of soft tissues.

Case Report: A 13-year-old male patient presented a painful, mobile, and rapidly growing mass on the posteromedial aspect of his left knee. Imaging studies revealed a mass that arose from the medial surface of the distal sartorius muscle, with extension to the subcutaneous fat tissue. It was a well-circumscribed solid tumor with a peripheral rim calcification on plain film, computerized tomography, and ultrasound (zonal phenomenon). On magnetic resonance imaging, a heterogenous mass on T1-weighted images (WI) and T2-WI was seen, with a peripheral hypointense rim in both sequences. An outstanding edema on T2-WI extending to the soft tissue and muscles of the medial compartment of the knee was detected. The mass was resected, and the "tumoral mimickers" histopathological and molecular (next-generation sequencing) diagnoses confirmed a soft tissue aneurysmal bone cyst. A follow-up showed that the patient was free of disease 12 months after surgery.

Conclusion: Soft tissue aneurysmal bone cyst is a rare tumor. Appropriate clinical and radiological correlation should be performed to differentiate it from other tumor mimickers.

Unlabelled: , an opportunistic and notorious nosocomial pathogen, is responsible for many infections affecting soft tissues, skin, lungs, bloodstream, and urinary tract, accounting for more than 722,000 cases annually. Despite the numerous advancements in therapeutic options, no approved vaccine is currently available for this particular bacterium. Consequently, this study focused on creating a rational vaccine design using bioinformatics tools.

Association of trabecular bone score corrected for tissue thickness with glucose metabolism in acromegaly.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

5th Department of Internal Medicine, Comenius University Faculty of Medicine, University Hospital Bratislava, Bratislava, Slovakia.

Introduction: Acromegaly is associated with increased vertebral fracture (VF) risk regardless of bone mineral density (BMD). However, the vertebral trabecular compartment is still low; a possible contributor to this may be impaired glucose metabolism (GM) which frequently complicates acromegaly. Additionally, soft tissue thickness may confound bone imaging in acromegaly patients.

Objective: This study aims to compare the results of cases with a history of assault presented to our emergency department over a period of three years with literature data and to share our experiences with colleagues.

Methods: Demographic characteristics, trauma findings, clinical conditions, surgical interventions, mortality, and outcomes of patients with a history of assault to the emergency department between 2020 and 2022 were retrospectively examined. The results were analyzed using the Number Cruncher Statistical System 2007 Statistical Software package program (Utah, USA).

A novel proceduralized donor liver back-table preparation technique minimizes hemorrhage following liver implantation in orthotropic liver transplantation.

Front Surg

December 2024

Hepatopancreatobiliary Center, Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, School of Clinical Medicine, Institute for Precision Medicine, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.

Background: Intraoperative hemorrhage is one of the major complications of orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) and is mainly caused by technical difficulties of the surgical procedure besides primary liver diseases. The present study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and clinical effects of a novel proceduralized donor liver back-table preparation (DLBTP) technique for use in OLT.

Methods: This retrospective study was conducted between January 2018 and June 2020 based on patients who had undergone OLT.

Background: Orbital rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is often limited to the orbital cavity and has a favorable prognosis. In some cases, the tumor can erode the orbital bone and behave as a parameningeal RMS (PM-RMS); thus, it is treated more intensively. However, the current protocols do not provide any guidance on how to consider different grades of bone erosion (BE) that can vary widely, hampering a uniform classification and the subsequent treatment assignment.
