5α,8α-peroxyergosteryl divaricatinate () is isolated for the first time from acetone extract of the thallus of cf. together with condidymic (), isodidymic () and barbatic () acids. Their UVB/UVA photoprotective and antioxidant activities were determined along with their cyto- and DNA-protecting actions against OH• damage. Compound showed high UVA, cyto- (%cell viability 82 at 15 µM 71 for OH•) and DNA (%DNA-integrity 74 at 100 µM 22 for OH•) protecting properties. Compounds and exhibited high UVB (SPF 40) and antioxidant activities (free radical scavenging potency EC = 0.6694 and 1.700 mol compound/mol DPPH•; ferric reducing power 0.392 and 0.546, at 500 ppm and inhibited lipid peroxidation); protecting cells (%cell viability 76 at 15 µM) and DNA (%DNA-integrity 57 at 100 µM). Compounds to fulfilled some physicochemical properties to act topically on the skin.

This study evaluated the photoprotective and antioxidant properties of eumelanin derived from Streptomyces lasalocidi NTB 42 (eumelanin NTB 42). This study also investigated the cellular-level photoprotective effects of eumelanin using Schizosaccharomyces pombe ARC039 as a model organism and its ability to enhance the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of commercial sunscreens. The thermal and light stability and total phenolic and flavonoid contents were analyzed.

Glutathione S-transferase (GST) has been established to play an important role in regulating the responses of plants to stress, although its function and mechanisms of action in the cadmium (Cd)-tolerant remain unclear. In this study, we sought to identify a Cd-responsive gene from for functional analysis and mechanistic characterization. We accordingly identified a member of the gene family, , which plays a positive role in adaptation of to Cd.

Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Altinbas University, Istanbul, Turkey.

Purpose: Photoaging is characterised by cutaneous changes caused by exposure to ultraviolet light over time. Quercetin is a bioflavanoid with antioxidant, antineoplastic, and anti-inflammatory effects. This study investigated the therapeutic effects of topical quercetin on photoaging, a phenomenon not previously studied in ultraviolet A (UVA)-induced photoaging.

Chilling stress seriously affects the growth and yield of tomato. Anthocyanin is a typical chilling-induced metabolite with strong antioxidant activity and photoprotective capacity. Here, we found that anthocyanin was also involved in ascorbic acid biosynthesis and glycolysis under chilling stress.

To find new antioxidants, 13 Trolox amides (2a-2m) and 7 Trolox esters (3a-3g) were synthesized and evaluated for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity. Compounds 2e, 2i, 3b and 3d showed potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity, amongst them, 3d demonstrated the most photoprotective effects on UVB-irradiated human skin keratinocyte (HaCaT) cells (IC = 5.13 µM) through efficiently scavenging free radicals and dose-dependently reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and apoptosis generation, as well as effectively promoting wound healing.
