Published: December 2023

Background: Amniocentesis is the most performed invasive prenatal diagnostic procedure. Learning the procedure is difficult for the learner, the teacher and the patient because of the risks inherent to this technique and the anxiety generated by the procedure. The objective of this work was to evaluate a theoretical and practical amniocentesis training workshop using a simulator.

Methods: We were inspired by Pierre Jean's precepts for the planning of a medical training. We then carried out the pedagogical session with the gynecology residents of our Regional University Hospital, a type 3 maternity hospital in France. We evaluated the theoretical learning through a questionnaire before and after the training and then the practical session on a home-made simulator. The satisfaction of the participants was assessed by a questionnaire at the end of the session.

Results: Fifteen learners, from the first to the last semester of internship, participated in the training. The median score of the pre-training questionnaire ("pre-test" questionnaire) was 3.3 out of 10 (min = 1, max = 6) and that of the post-training questionnaire ("post-test" questionnaire) was 7.9 out of 10 (min = 6, max = 9). The post-training scores were significantly higher (p < 0.0007). The average score for the practical training was 30.5 out of 40 (24-36). 93 % of the learners were fully satisfied with the theoretical training and 100 % stated that they had improved their technical skills.

Conclusion: The residents in our department expressed a need for training in this invasive procedure of antenatal diagnosis. The training proved to be beneficial following the evaluation of the learning but also following the feedback of the learners.

Amorphization engineering of Ni-cysteine coordination composition for urea electro-oxidation at large current density.

Key Laboratory of Environmentally Friendly Chemistry and Applications of Ministry of Education, College of Chemistry, Xiangtan University, Hunan 411105, China.

Unavoidable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and the relatively high potential to form real active sites of Ni species severely decrease the efficiency of urea-assisted hydrogen generation facility. Herein, amorphization Ni-cysteine coordination (aNi-cys) is constructed as efficient urea electro-oxidation reaction (UOR) catalyst with highly capable of suppressing competitive OER and promoting the Ni to Ni in-situ electrochemical configuration through deliberately regulating the Ni/l-cysteine coordination environment. The abundant ligand atoms (N, S, and O) of l-cysteine considerably tuned the Ni electronic structure to the most suitable state while the amorphization thin lamellas increased the exposed active sites and befitting for the access of electrolyte to electrode surface, resulting improved UOR activity with a large peak current density of 263 mA cm, far exceeding crystalline Ni-cysteine coordination (cNi-cys) and long-term stability for 50 h working.

A home-made screen printed electrode (SPE) was designed with a magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotube composite (MWCNT-FeO) and a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) for sensitive and selective electrochemical analysis of famotidine (FAM). The SPE was fabricated using non-commercial conductive inks such as carbon and silver inks. The electrodes were printed by a painting technique on polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sheets as a substrate.

This paper aims at investigating the triaxial behavior of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) under extremely high pressures, and experimentally determine Equation of State (EOS) for several different AAC densities. Oedometric tests were carried out using a home-made high-pressure triaxial apparatus, and pressures up to ~500 MPa were applied. The complete pressure-bulk strain relationships were measured, and new findings and insights were obtained.

Purpose: To develop and validate a low-cost homemade bench-top training model to facilitate retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) training.

Methods: The RIRS training model (G-Model) was developed using a surgical glove and a recycled ureter access sheath. Fifteen participants including 10 residents and 5 urologists were enrolled.
