The distribution frequencies of HLA-A and B antigens was determined in 94 maturity onset diabetics (40 with CSP and 54 without CSP), as well as in 400 unrelated age- and sex-matched Greek controls. The standard NIH technique was used for tissue typing. There was an increased prevalence of the antigen B27 only in diabetics with CSP (35%) when compared either to the controls (6.8%) or to diabetics without CSP (9.2%). The calculated p-corrected values were Pc = 0.00027 and Pc greater than 0.005 respectively. These findings indicate that the MHC in man may control the genetic susceptibility of a subgroup of insulin-independent diabetics to develop CSP.

Early combination therapy with SGLT2i and GLP-1 RA or dual GIP/GLP-1 RA in type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes Obes Metab

February 2025

Holman Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Departments of Medicine and Population Health, VA New York Harbor Healthcare System, New York University Grossman School of Medicine, New York, New York, USA.

Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) and glucagon-Like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA) are recommended in people with type 2 diabetes (T2D) for glycaemic control and for people with high cardiovascular risk. However, current guidelines do not specifically address the role of initial early combination therapy with SGLT2i and GLP-1 RA or dual gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP)/GLP-1 RA, but rather sequential initiation with either in T2D. This review synthesizes the available evidence on the use of SGLT2i and GLP-1-based therapies for T2D and provides a rationale for their combination.

Chondroitin sulfate sponge scaffold for slow-release Mg/Cu in diabetic wound management: Hemostasis, effusion absorption, and healing.

Int J Biol Macromol

December 2024

School of Basic Medicine, Jinzhou Medical University, No.40, Section 4, Road Songpo, Jinzhou, Liaoning 121001, PR China. Electronic address:

The management of diabetic wounds presents significant challenges due to persistent inflammation, microenvironmental disruptions, and impaired angiogenesis. To address these issues, this study developed a multifunctional chondroitin sulfate sponge (CSP@Cu-Mg) with anti-inflammatory properties, hemostatic effects, effusion absorption, and enhanced healing promotion. Through ion crosslinking, MgO and CuO were incorporated into the interpenetrating network structure of chondroitin sulfate and acellular dermal matrix, resulting in a sponge with impressive liquid absorption capacity (3450 %) and porosity (83 %).

Introduction complex(BCC) is one of the most common polymyxin-resistant Gram-negative bacilli isolated in the clinical microbiological laboratory. They are often underreported when conventional biochemicals are used for identification, due to their similarity to other non-fermenting bacilli. It is essential to identify BCC using simple biochemical tests with good reliability to ease the identification of BCC in resource-limited settings and initiate treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic shoulder pain (CSP) is a major issue affecting daily life and has significant implications for individuals and society, highlighting the need for research to identify risk factors.
  • A study conducted in South India over four years found that factors like age, occupational hazards, and lifestyle choices (such as smoking and vitamin D deficiency) are linked to increased CSP incidence.
  • The findings emphasize that addressing both physical and psychological risk factors, along with promoting a healthier lifestyle and work environment, is crucial for reducing CSP and improving patients' quality of life.

Article Synopsis
  • * Among 5,064 polyps from 2,530 patients, only 0.24% were diagnosed with CRC, and none of the patients died from it.
  • * Key risk factors included an eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) below 60 mL/min/1.73 m² and creatinine levels above 1.0 mg/dL, suggesting more thorough examinations for patients with chronic kidney disease.
