Plants produce a wide range of bioactive peptides as part of their innate defense mechanisms. With the explosive growth of plant-derived peptides, verifying the therapeutic function using traditional experimental methods are resources and time consuming. Therefore, it is necessary to predict the therapeutic function of plant-derived peptides more effectively and accurately with reduced waste of resources and thus expedite the development of plant peptides. We herein developed a repository of plant peptides predicted to have multiple therapeutic functions, named as MFPPDB (multi-functional plant peptide database). MFPPDB including 1,482,409 single or multiple functional plant origin therapeutic peptides derived from 121 fundamental plant species. The functional categories of these therapeutic peptides include 41 different features such as anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-HIV, anti-viral, and anti-cancer. The detailed physicochemical information of these peptides was presented in functional search and physicochemical property search module, which can help users easily access the peptide information by the plant peptide species, ID, and functions, or by their peptide ID, isoelectric point, peptide sequence, and molecular weight through web-friendly interface. We further matched the predicted peptides to nine state-of-the-art curated functional peptide databases and found that at least 293,408 of the peptides possess functional potentials. Overall, MFPPDB integrated a massive number of plant peptides have single or multiple therapeutic functions, which will facilitate the comprehensive research in plant peptidomics. MFPPDB can be freely accessed through http://124.223.195.214:9188/mfppdb/index.

Sea buckthorn is a model of medicine and food homology, but the chemical composition and mechanism of anti-inflammatory effects are limited. In this study, the key components and mechanisms of the anti-inflammatory effects of sea buckthorn were identified based on UPLC-Q-TOF-MS, network pharmacology, molecular docking, molecular dynamics and RAW264.7 cells.

The utilization of chemical pesticides recovers 30%-40% of food losses. However, their application has also triggered a series of problems, including food safety, environmental pollution, pesticide resistance, and incidents of poisoning. Consequently, green pesticides are increasingly seen as viable alternatives to their chemical counterparts.

Glyphosate (Gly) is a widely used herbicide for weed control in agriculture, but it can also adversely affect crops by impairing growth, reducing yield, and disrupting nutrient uptake, while inducing toxicity. Therefore, adopting integrated eco-friendly approaches and understanding the mechanisms of glyphosate tolerance in plants is crucial, as these areas remain underexplored. This study provides proteome insights into Si-mediated improvement of Gly-toxicity tolerance in Brassica napus.

The purpose of this article is to investigate the effects of walnut (Juglans regia L.) kernel pellicle on the composition and properties of enzymatic hydrolysis products of walnut meal using peptidomics and bioinformatics. In this study, a total of 3423 peptide sequences were identified in peeled walnut protein hydrolysates (PWPH) and unpeeled walnut protein hydrolysates (UWPH).

The aberrant upregulation of Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1) in a variety of solid cancers contributes to tumor progression and poor clinical outcomes, rendering it an appealing therapeutic target. However, effective therapies to directly target YAP1 remain challenging. In this study, we perform a high-throughput screening and identify Casein kinase II (CK2) as an uncharacterized upstream regulator of YAP1 turnover in cancer cells of ovarian cancer and several other cancer types.
