We purified two novel bacteriophages from soil collected in Sioux County, Iowa: BAjuniper and Tedro. These bacteriophages were isolated from the host, . BAjuniper was assigned to cluster EB, and Tedro was assigned to cluster EF. Both phages display genomes typical of other phages in their clusters.

Antibiotic treatment versus appendicectomy for acute appendicitis in adults: an individual patient data meta-analysis.

Lancet Gastroenterol Hepatol

January 2025

Department of Surgery, Amsterdam Gastroenterology Endocrinology Metabolism, Amsterdam UMC, Location AMC, University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, Netherlands. Electronic address:

Background: Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) have found antibiotics to be a feasible and safe alternative to appendicectomy in adults with imaging-confirmed acute appendicitis. However, patient inclusion criteria and outcome definitions vary greatly between RCTs. We aimed to compare antibiotics with appendicectomy for the treatment of acute appendicitis using individual patient data and uniform outcome definitions.

Department of Neurobiology, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Xi'an Jiaotong University Health Science Center, No. 76 Yanta West Road, Yanta District, Xi'an, 710061, China.

Neuropathic pain (NP) is a complex and prevalent chronic pain condition that affects millions of individuals worldwide. Previous studies have shown that prior exercise protects against NP caused by nerve injury. However, the underlying mechanisms of this protective effect remain to be uncovered.

Microbial Genome Database for Comparative Analysis (MBGD) is a comprehensive ortholog database encompassing published complete microbial genomes. The ortholog tables in MBGD are constructed in a hierarchical manner. The top-level ortholog table is now constructed from 1,812 genus-level pan-genomes, 6,268 species-level pan-genomes, and 34,079 genomes in total.

Background: Seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine combined with amodiaquine (SPAQ) effectively protects eligible children from malaria in areas of high and seasonal transmission. However, concerns about parasite resistance to sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine in East and Southern Africa necessitate evaluating alternative drug regimens. This study assessed the effectiveness of SPAQ and dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine for SMC in Uganda.

The nutrient germinant receptors (GRs) in spores of Bacillus species consist of a cluster of three proteins- designated A, B, and C subunits- that play a critical role in initiating the germination of dormant spores in response to specific nutrient molecules. The Bacillus cereus GerI GR is essential for inosine-induced germination; however, the roles of the individual subunits and the mechanism by which germinant binding activates GR function remain unclear. In this study, we report the backbone chemical shift assignments of the N-terminal domain (NTD) of the A subunit of GerI (GerIA).
