A freshwater green microalgal strain was isolated and the lectin was identified in it by a strong hemagglutination activity (HA) assay. Characterization of the algal strain was found to be (MW769776). A single step affinity chromatographic technique was developed to purify lectin (CSL) using guar gum as the affinity matrix. The precipitate showed a single active peak with a titer value of 1024 HU, with a concentration of 1111 U, and a purification fold of 9. The purified protein exhibited a single band in SDS-PAGE with a molecular weight of 16 kDa. Analysis by liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-quadrupole-time of flight mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-Q-TOF-MS) of tryptic-digested purified lectin showed that it was a monomeric protein. A multiple sequence alignment analysis revealed that the peptide sequences of CSL exhibited similarity with the H-type lectin domain of . The structure of CSL was studied by FTIR and homology modeling methods, indicating the presence of -helix as well as -sheet in its secondary structure. Whereas the 3D structure exhibited the similarity with the core protein of light-harvesting reaction center complex of photosystem I. The significance of this study suggests that the characteristics of CSL are consistent with its identification as a hemagglutinin, a type of novel lectin, which suggests its candidature for various biological purposes.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Legume leaves exhibit diverse compound forms, with various regulatory mechanisms underlying the development. The transcription factor-encoding KNOXI genes are required to promote leaflet initiation in most compound-leafed angiosperms. In non-IRLC (inverted repeat-lacking clade) legumes, KNOXI are expressed in compound leaf primordia but not in others (IRLC).

The histological diagnosis of pediatric melanocytic tumors is challenging, as benign nevi often resemble aggressive tumors. Accurate diagnosis is crucial for the early detection of rare pediatric melanomas. Recent advancements have established a classification based on genetic backgrounds.

Horizontal connections in anterior inferior temporal cortex (ITC) are thought to play an important role in object recognition by integrating information across spatially separated functional columns, but their functional organization remains unclear. Using a combination of optical imaging, electrophysiological recording, and anatomical tracing, we investigated the relationship between stimulus-response maps and patterns of horizontal axon terminals in the macaque ITC. In contrast to the "like-to-like" connectivity observed in the early visual cortex, we found that horizontal axons in ITC do not preferentially connect sites with similar object selectivity.

Understanding the molecular mechanisms that confer cold resistance in mammalian cells might be relevant for advancing medical applications. This study aimed to exploit the protective function of Late Embryogenesis Abundant (LEA) proteins, known to provide resistance to low temperatures in extremophiles and plants, by their exogenous expression in mammalian cells, and compare their effects with the well characterized antioxidant, vitamin E.Remarkably, the expression of LEA proteins in mammalian cells exerted cold-protective effect similar to Vitamin E.

This study aims to evaluate the effects of the home bleaching method on the surface microhardness and surface roughness of both polished and unpolished CAD-CAM resin composite materials. A polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) block, Enamic (VE), along with four resin composite blocks (RCB) (Grandio [GN], Lava™ Ultimate [LV], BRILLIANT Crios [B], and Cerasmart [CS]), were prepared to dimensions of 14 mm × 12 mm × 2 mm and were categorized into unpolished and polished groups (n = 4). Microhardness measurements were conducted using a Vickers microhardness tester (300 gf load for 20 s) at various time points: before home bleaching, after home bleaching with 15% Opalescence for 8 h and for 56 h, 24 h after bleaching, and one month after bleaching.
