Power-based upconversion luminescence color regulation (PUCR) is especially suitable for developing dynamic luminescence anti-counterfeiting owing to its straightforward usage. However, it remains a challenge to achieve visually remarkable Ho-based PUCR. Herein, favorable PUCR behavior is achieved by codoping Yb and Ho into the LuMoO lattice. It has been demonstrated that the ultrashort lifetime of the Ho:I level and the anomalous three-photon nature of green emission are essential. The former causes high-purity red emission at low power, while the latter enables power-responsive tuning from red to green. Compared with ErMoO:4% Tm we recently reported that LuMoO:90% Yb/1% Ho, thanks to the high solubility of Yb ions, showed a ∼25-fold enhancement in emission intensity. This new material is potentially applicable in dynamic luminescence anti-counterfeiting.

Rapid Acquisition of High-Pixel Fluorescence Lifetime Images of Living Cells via Image Reconstruction Based on Edge-Preserving Interpolation.

Fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) has established itself as a pivotal tool for investigating biological processes within living cells. However, the extensive imaging duration necessary to accumulate sufficient photons for accurate fluorescence lifetime calculations poses a significant obstacle to achieving high-resolution monitoring of cellular dynamics. In this study, we introduce an image reconstruction method based on the edge-preserving interpolation method (EPIM), which transforms rapidly acquired low-resolution FLIM data into high-pixel images, thereby eliminating the need for extended acquisition times.

Achieving dynamic multicolor emission through solid-state molecular motion is of significant importance for advancing applications in organic solid-state luminescent materials. Herein, we report macrocycle crystals with unique forward‒ and retro‒vapofluorochromic behavior, which is realized by reversible amine vapor uptake and amine‒"squeeze" induced guest release. The forward‒vapofluorochromism occurs when aliphatic amines penetrate guest-free macrocycle crystals to form host‒guest complex crystals.

Aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) reduces luminescence and compromises brightness in solid-state displays, necessitating strategies to mitigate its effects for enhanced performance. This study presents cost-effective method to mitigate ACQ of pyrene by co-assembling polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons within low molecular weight gelator. Synthesized from readily available materials-cholesteryl chloroformate and pentaerythritol-in one-step reaction, gelator incorporates four cholesteryl units, reported to promote robust supramolecular gels in various solvents.

Many marine organisms feature sensitive sensory-perceptual systems to sense the surrounding environment and respond to disturbance with intense bioluminescence. However, it remains a great challenge to develop artificial materials that can sense external disturbance and simultaneously activate intense luminescence, although such materials are attractive for visual sensing and intelligent displays. Herein, we present a new class of bioinspired smart gels constructed by integrating hydrophilic polymeric networks, metastable supersaturated salt and fluorophores containing heterogenic atoms.

Tetrachlorobisphenol A (TCBPA) is a kind of fire retardant extensively used in our life, but it can accumulate in organisms and potentially have toxic effects. Transferrin (TF) is a glycoprotein predominantly present in the blood plasma, serving as an essential mediator for the transportation of iron and other small molecules. In our study, various techniques including multi-spectroscopic and molecular docking were employed to examine the interaction between TCBPA and TF.
