Non-Hermiticity in quantum Hamiltonians leads to nonunitary time evolution and possibly complex energy eigenvalues, which can lead to a rich phenomenology with no Hermitian counterpart. In this work, we study the dynamics of an exactly solvable non-Hermitian system, hosting both PT-symmetric and PT-broken modes subject to a linear quench. Employing a fully consistent framework, in which the Hilbert space is endowed with a nontrivial dynamical metric, we analyze the dynamics of the generated defects. In contrast to Hermitian systems, our study reveals that PT-broken time evolution leads to defect freezing and hence the violation of adiabaticity. This physics necessitates the so-called metric framework, as it is missed by the oft used approach of normalizing quantities by the time-dependent norm of the state. Our results are relevant for a wide class of experimental systems.

Objective: The loss of locus coeruleus (LC)-norepinephrine system may contribute to freezing of gait (FOG) in Parkinson's disease (PD), but free-water (FW) imaging has not been applied to investigate LC microstructural degeneration in FOG. This study was to investigate the role of the LC-norepinephrine system in FOG pathophysiology using FW imaging and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging.
Methods: FW metrics of LC were analyzed in 52 healthy controls, 79 PD patients without FOG (Non-FOG), and 110 PD patients with FOG (48 "Off-period" FOG and 62 "Levodopa unresponsive" FOG).

In this article we study the structure and the orientation of DNA strands by Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS). We study the influence of two parameters on the structure of strands containing 20 adenines: the hybridization with the complementary strand and the presence of mismatch within the sequence. By varying the concentration of complementary strands, we show that hybridisation induces a change in strand orientation and loss of flexibility, indicating that the formation of the double helix freezes the conformation of DNA strand.

The application of silk fibroin (SF) hydrogels is often limited by their brittleness; on the other hand, increasing ductility can lead to insufficient strength of the hydrogel. Noncontained (1- or combined 1- to 2-wall) periodontal intraosseous defects represent challenging clinical situations with unpredictable surgical therapeutic outcomes. This randomized clinical trial assessed demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft (DFDBA) with low speed-platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) membrane compared to DFDBA with collagen membrane (CM) in the surgical periodontal therapy of noncontained intraosseous defects of stage III periodontitis patients. Twenty-two stage III periodontitis patients with noncontained intraosseous defects measuring ≥3 mm and clinical attachment loss ≥5 mm were randomly allocated into two groups: test group (low-speed PRF membrane + DFDBA) and control group (CM + DFDBA), with 11 participants per group.
