In the present study, we introduce a four-dimensional deterministic mathematical pattern in order to study the interactions between the human immune system and a virus. The model is based on a system with four first-order ordinary differential equations, and the main aim of the paper is to perform a mathematical analysis of the local behavior of the associated dynamical system using the tools of the qualitative theory of dynamical systems. Moreover, two types of patterns with controls were introduced; consequently, some very interesting theoretical conclusions with medical relevance were obtained.

Introduction: Sustaining attention is a notoriously difficult task as shown in a recent experiment where reaction times (RTs) and pupillometry data were recorded from 350 subjects in a 30-min vigilance task. Subjects were also presented with different types of goal, feedback, and reward.
Methods: In this study, we revisit this experimental data and solve three families of machine learning problems: (i) RT-regression problems, to predict subjects' RTs using all available data, (ii) RT-classification problems, to classify responses more broadly as attentive, semi-attentive, and inattentive, and (iii) to predict the subjects' experimental conditions from physiological data.

Heterojunctions (HJs) based on two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides are considered promising candidates for next-generation electronic and optoelectronic devices. Here, vertical (V-type) and lateral (L-type) HJ diodes based on metallic 1T-VSe and semiconducting 2H-WSe with out-of-plane and in-plane contacts are designed. First-principles quantum transport simulations reveal that both V- and L-type VSe/WSe HJ diodes form p-type Schottky contacts.
