Ga-based radiopharmaceuticals are routinely used for PET imaging of multiple types of tumors. Gallium-68 is commonly obtained from Ge/Ga generators, which are limited in the quantity of activity produced. Alternatively, gallium-68 can easily be produced on a cyclotron using liquid targets. In this study, we optimized the GMP production of [Ga]GaFAPI-46 using gallium-68 produced via a standard medical cyclotron using liquid targets. Starting from the published synthesis and quality control procedures described for other Ga-based radiopharmaceuticals, we have validated the synthesis process and the analytical methods to test the quality parameters of the final product to be used for routine clinical studies. [Ga]GaFAPI-46 was successfully produced with high radiochemical purity and yield using an IBA Synthera Extension module. Gallium chloride was produced on a medical cyclotron using a liquid target with activity of 4.31 ± 0.36 GBq at the end of purification (EOP). Analytical methods were established and validated, meeting Ph. Eur. standards. Full GMP production was also validated in three consecutive batches, producing 2.50 ± 0.46 GBq of [Ga]GaFAPI-46 at the end of synthesis (EOS), with 98.94 ± 0.72% radiochemical purity measured via radio-HPLC. Quality was maintained for up to 3 h after the EOS. Production of [Ga]GaFAPI-46 was performed and validated using a standard medical cyclotron with liquid targets. The quality control parameters (e.g., sterility, purity, and residual solvents) conformed to Ph. Eur. and a shelf life of 3 h was established. The activity of [Ga]GaFAPI-46 produced was substantially higher than the one obtained with generators, enabling a better response to the clinical need for this radiopharmaceutical.

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) CO reduction using a photocathode is an attractive method for making valuable chemical products due to its simplicity and lower overpotential requirements. However, previous PEC processes have often been diffusion-limited leading to low production rates of the CO reduction reaction, due to inefficient gas diffusion through the liquid electrolyte to the catalyst surface, particularly at high current densities. In this study, a gas-permeable photocathode in a continuous flow PEC reactor is incorporated, which facilitates the direct supply of CO gas to the photocathode-electrolyte interface, unlike dark reaction-based flow reactors.

Root exudation of N is a plant input to the soil environment and may be differentially regulated by the plant during drought. Organic N released by root systems has important implications in rhizosphere biogeochemical cycling considering the intimate coupling of C and N dynamics by microbial communities. Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is an important polar solvent that derives its unique properties from the lone pair and the strong polar bond at the sulfinyl functional group. To derive the local and symmetry-resolved electronic structure of liquid DMSO, we have used resonant inelastic soft X-ray scattering (RIXS) maps at the S L, C K, and O K edges. The experimental data are compared to calculations of spectra based on density functional theory, which allows a detailed analysis of the molecular orbitals throughout the molecule.

Thermal denaturation (TD), known as antigen retrieval, heats tissue samples in a buffered solution to expose protein epitopes. Thermal denaturation of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples enhances on-tissue tryptic digestion, increasing peptide detection using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization imaging mass spectrometry (MALDI IMS).
