Published: December 2023

The multispectral compatible infrared camouflage technology is implemented these days to counter the developing infrared detectors and detectors of other bands. However, the conflict between delicate optical structures and scalable procedures has significantly impeded the development and application of multispectral-compatible camouflage technology. Therefore, a semi-open Fabry-Perot structure is introduced, and the color and infrared emissivity by structural parameters for color-matched visible-infrared compatible camouflage are modulated. The prepared compatible camouflage film exhibits visible camouflage by the minimum color difference of 1.6 L*a*b* (under desert background) and infrared camouflage by low emission (ε ≈ 0.17 and ε ≈ 0.143). Due to its flexibility and scalability, the compatible camouflage film can be applied in practical applications and exhibits desirable visible and infrared camouflage performance in different battlefield backgrounds.

We report a new approach for fabricating gate-tunable thermal emissivity surfaces by spraying them on graphene ink. The devices consist of a multilayer graphene (MLG)/porous alumina membrane/gold stack, in which the MLG is deposited by spraying the graphene ink onto the porous membrane using an airbrush. The graphene ink consists of μm-sized flakes of MLG suspended in a solution of polyvinylpyrrolidone and ethylene glycol.

Microwave absorbers with infrared camouflage are highly desirable in military fields. Self-supporting 3D architectures with tailorable shapes, composed of FeCoNi alloy/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) @ carbon nanofibers (CNFs), were fabricated in this study. On the one hand, multiple loss mechanisms were introduced into the high-elastic sponges.

Achieving multi-spectrum compatible stealth in radar-terahertz-infrared bands with robust performance has great prospects for both military and civilian applications. However, the progress of materials encounters substantial challenges due to the significant variability in frequency coupling properties across different electromagnetic wave bands. Here, this work presents the design of a multi-scale structure and fabricates a lightweight aerogel (silver nanowire@carbon, AgNW@C) consisting of a regular coaxial nano-cable, with silver nanowire as the core and amorphous-graphitized hybrid carbon as the outer-layer.

Multispectral camouflage materials that provide adaptable features across a wide spectrum, from visible light to radar frequencies, play a vital role in sophisticated multi-band electromagnetic (EM) applications. However, conventional single-band stealth is difficult to align with the growing demand for multi-band compatibility and intelligent adaptation. Herein, we report the design and synthesis of cephalopod-inspired MXene-integrated cholesteric liquid crystal elastomers (MXene-CLCEs) with multispectral camouflage capability, which was fabricated through in situ thiol-acrylate Michael addition and free-radical photopolymerization of CLCE precursor and isocyanate-mediated robust covalent chemical bonding of MXene nanocoating at the interface.

Modern detection technology has driven camouflage technology toward multispectral compatibility and dynamic regulation. However, developing such stealth technologies is challenging due to different frequency-band principles. Here, this work proposes a design concept for a fluid-actuated multispectral compatible smart stealth device that employs a deformable mechanochromic layer/elastomer with a channeled dielectric layer.
