In the last 30 years, the use of dental implants to replace missing teeth has increased immensely. Brånemark pioneered the use of extensive surgical flaps to visualise the surgical field during implant surgery. Since then, several changes have been made to the flap design with aesthetic considerations now being incorporated. Such major innovations have contributed to the wide acceptance of flapless implant surgery. Therefore, it is of interest to describe the various techniques, requirements, advantages and disadvantages of minimally implant surgery.

Background: Children living with HIV are at higher risk for hearing loss compared to children with HIV-unexposed, uninfected (HUU). There is little known regarding the effects of children living with perinatally-acquired HIV (PHIV) and those living with perinatal HIV exposure but uninfected (PHEU) on central auditory function.

Methods: Children aged 11-14 years who were participating in the Auditory Research in Children with HIV study.

Positive surgical margins following radical prostatectomy significantly contribute to tumor recurrence. While systemic chemotherapy demonstrates limited efficacy in this context, local chemotherapy drug delivery systems based on nanomaterials offer promising strategies to address this issue by modifying drug release kinetics and distribution, thereby enhancing antitumor effects while minimizing the toxicities associated with systemic chemotherapy. In this study, we utilized electrospun nanofibrous mats loaded with docetaxel for sustained drug delivery.

Type 1 diabetic (T1D) patients are life-long dependent on insulin therapy to keep their blood glucose levels under control. An alternative cell-based therapy for exogenous insulin injections is clinical islet transplantation (CIT). Currently the widespread application of CIT is limited, due to risks associated with the life-long use of immunosuppressive drugs to prevent rejection of donor cells.

Purpose: To evaluate the occurrence of complications following intravitreal injections (IVIs) performed in an outpatient clean room (OCR) equipped with the mobile laminar airflow device (LAF) Operio.

Methods: This retrospective study analyzed the data of 10,016 IVIs performed in an OCR from April 2023 to November 2024. All information of each patient was registered, such as diagnosis, drug injected and any occurring complication or adverse events such as endophthalmitis, intraocular inflammation, rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD), vitreous hemorrhages and elevated intraocular pressure.

Purpose: This study assessed the impact of the buccal bone on hard and soft tissues in submerged and non-submerged immediate implants using a minipig model.

Methods: Sixty-five titanium implants (Camlog Progressive Line) were placed in four minipigs immediately after tooth extraction. All non-submerged (NSM) implants received a mechanically induced buccal bone defect (NSM-BD), whereas the submerged group (SM) was classified as defective (SM-BD) and intact (SM-BI).
