An eco-friendly and simple approach was carried out for the synthesis of silver-chitosan nanocomposites using and fluconazole-mediated aqueous extract. This extract acted as a reducing agent as well as a capping agent for the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles. Chitosan nanoparticles on the other hand were synthesized from the deacetylation of the chitin matrix. To confirm the nanoparticle synthesis, a UV- A visible spectrophotometer was used and FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of functional groups in the prepared extract. The morphological characteristics of silver and chitosan nanoparticles and as nano-composites were studied and confirmed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. The synthesized silver-chitosan nanocomposites were subjected to well-loaded agar plates for the evaluation of antibacterial properties against the and for their antifungal properties. The synthesized silver and chitosan nanoparticles showed antibacterial and antifungal activities against common oral micro flora such as and which were measured using the zone of inhibition method. This approach is a one-step, economical and eco-friendly, biocompatible, and effective alternative for nanoparticle synthesis for various prosthetic applications.

Today, curcumin's therapeutic properties are used in drug delivery systems. In this work, chitosan (CS) /Montmorillonite (MMT) hydrogels were synthesized to improve the performance of curcumin molecules. According to the results, drug release characteristics of CS/MMT/curcumin highly depend on the pH of the environment and properties of Ag nanoparticles.

In this work, temperature-responsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and the guanylthiourea (GLA) were used to modify chitosan (CS) to prepare a novel PNIPAM/GLA/CS adsorbent for Ag(I) ions. Temperature variations near the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) facilitate the adjustment of functional group distribution within the composite material, thereby influencing its adsorption performance for silver ions. The characteristics of this composite material were confirmed using a variety of techniques, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), variable-temperature ultraviolet-visible near-infrared spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).

In this study, chitosan (C)-polyvinyl alcohol (P) edible film containing bio-fabricated nanosilver particles (nAg) (as antimicrobial agent) and beetroot peel extract (BRPE) (as antioxidant agent and pH indicator) was used as spoilage indicator in cold-stored rainbow trout fillets. DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging activity (43.02%), reducing power (2.

Food packaging plays a vital role in guaranteeing the quality and safety of fresh products during the storage and distribution. Carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) is identified as a promising polymer for food packaging film owing to its film-forming ability, non-toxicity, and biodegradability. Nevertheless, the practical applications of pure CMCS film usually suffer from some limits owing to its poor antibacterial effect and mechanical strength.

The development of a sustainable and eco-friendly silver-based hybrid nanocomposite for safe and efficient point-of-use (POU) water disinfection remains a challenge. Herein, a simple and facile approach was proposed for the in situ immobilization of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on chitosan-g-poly (sulfobetaine methacrylate) (CS-g-PSBMA) hydrogel beads, which have been achieved via graft copolymerization of sulfobetaine methacrylate along the chitosan chains followed by a drop method. The AgNPs-decorated CS-g-PSBMA hydrogel beads were characterized and their bactericidal efficacy towards Escherichia coli was evaluated concurrently with their anti-biofouling behaviors.
