Development and the application of Sn-based materials have become more prevalent in recent years due to concerns regarding the energy crisis, environmental pollution, and the urgent need of constructing inexpensive and highly effective photocatalysis. The recent advancement in Sn-based materials for efficient photocatalysts, such as Sn alloys, Sn oxides, Sn sulfides, Sn selenides, Sn niobates, Sn tantalites, and Sn tungstates, is summarized in this study. Several design ideas for increasing the photoactivity of Sn-based materials in various photocatalytic applications are emphasized. In addition, we considered their present applications in energy generation (H evolution, CO reduction, and N fixation) and environmental remediation (air purification and wastewater treatment). As a result, the current review will deepen the reader's understanding of the properties and potential uses of Sn-based materials in photocatalysis. Hence, this paper will serve as a guide in promoting the domain of Sn-based materials for future photocatalytic technologies.

As an ideal eco-friendly Pb-free optoelectronic material, Sn-based perovskites have made significant progress in the field of photovoltaics, and the highest power conversion efficiency (PCE) of Sn-based perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has been currently approaching 16%. In the course of development, various strategies have been proposed to improve the PCE and stability of Sn-based PSCs by solving the inherent problems of Sn, including high Lewis acidity and easy oxidation. Notably, the recent breakthrough comes from the development of heteroatomic coordination molecules to control the characteristics of Sn-based perovskites, which are considered to be vital for realizing efficient PSCs.

Tin (Sn)-based two-dimensional (2D) materials exhibit intriguing mechanical and optoelectrical properties owing to their non-centrosymmetric crystallinity and tunable band structures. A judicious integration of these individually decoupled properties is projected to introduce unparalleled functionalities into them, which remain largely unexplored. Herein, we develop wafer-scale tin selenide (SnSe, 0 < < 1) 2D layers composed of thermodynamically stable coexisting phases of SnSe and SnSe with distinct functionalities and identify a strong interplay between their mechanical and optoelectrical characteristics.

Metal halide perovskites have shown exceptionally slow hot-carrier cooling, which has been attributed to various physical mechanisms without reaching a consensus. Here, experiment and theory are combined to unveil the carrier cooling process in formamidinium (FA) and caesium (Cs) tin triiodide thin films. Through impulsive vibrational spectroscopy and molecular dynamics, much shorter phonon dephasing times of the hybrid perovskite, which accounts for the larger blueshift in the photoluminescence seen at high excitation density for FASnI compared to CsSnI is reported.

Low-dimensional perovskites have opened up a new frontier in light-emitting diodes (LED) due to their excellent properties. However, concerns regarding the potential toxicity of Pb limited their commercial development. Sn-based perovskites are regarded as a promising candidate to replace Pb-based counterparts, while they generally exhibit strong electron-phonon coupling and consequently blue emission quenching at room temperature (RT), thus the Sn-based perovskite blue LED devices have not yet been reported.
