An unusual O/F ordered d transition metal fluoroantimonite, namely, KSbMoOF, has been created by the cationic size effect of alkali metals. It features the largest birefringence of 0.220@550 nm among inorganic antimonites with a halogen element, which is an order of magnitude larger than the disordered ASbMoOF (A = Rb, Cs). These three new compounds exhibit two different structures, although all of the structures were made of [SbMoOF] chains formed by SbF square pyramids and MoOF octahedrons. A transparent single crystal of KSbMoOF with dimensions of 7.0 × 5.0 × 1.0 mm has been successfully grown by the aqueous solution volatilization method. The UV-vis-MIR transmission spectrum showed that KSbMoOF can display excellent transmittance in the range of 0.5-5.0 μm and 6.0-9.8 μm, indicating its application potential as a birefringent material in the mid infrared band. This work offers a fresh approach to the design and synthesis of mid infrared birefringent materials.

Mid-infrared thermal radiation has attracted attention due to its wide range of applications. Compared to the static process of thermal emission, if thermal radiation can be dynamically controlled, it would be more suitable for practical applications. Herein, we designed a controllable thermal emitter based on phase change materials.

Sum-frequency generation (SFG) enables the coherent upconversion of electromagnetic signals and plays a significant role in mid-infrared vibrational spectroscopy for molecular analysis. Recent research indicates that plasmonic nanocavities, which confine light to extremely small volumes, can facilitate the detection of vibrational SFG signals from individual molecules by leveraging surface-enhanced Raman scattering combined with mid-infrared laser excitation. In this article, we compute the degree of second order coherence ( (0)) of the upconverted mid-infrared field under realistic parameters and accounting for the anharmonic potential that characterizes vibrational modes of individual molecules.

Traditional tetrahedral-based mid-to-far infrared (MFIR) nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals often face limitations due to the optical anisotropy constraints imposed by their highly symmetric structures. In contrast, the relatively rare trigonal pyramidal [TeS] functional unit characterized by its asymmetric structure and stereochemically active lone pair (SCALP), offers improved optical anisotropy, hyperpolarizability and a broader IR transparency range. Despite its potential, synthetic challenges have hindered the development of MFIR NLO crystals that incorporate this unit, with only one example reported to date.

This paper presents a comprehensive dataset of mid-infrared spectra for dried and roasted cocoa beans ( L.), along with their corresponding theobromine and caffeine content. Infrared data were acquired using Attenuated Total Reflectance-Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy, while High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) was employed to accurately quantify theobromine and caffeine in the dried cocoa beans.

2-Cyanoindene is one of the few specific aromatic or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) molecules positively identified in Taurus molecular cloud-1 (TMC-1), a cold, dense molecular cloud that is considered the nearest star-forming region to Earth. We report cryogenic mid-infrared (550-3200 cm) and visible (16,500-20,000 cm, over the ← electronic transition) spectra of 2-cyanoindene radical cations (2CNI), measured using messenger tagging (He and Ne) photodissociation spectroscopy. The infrared spectra reveal the prominence of anharmonic couplings, particularly over the fingerprint region.
