Airport ice control products contributed to total phosphorus (TP) loadings in a study of surface water runoff at a medium-sized airport from 2015 to 2021. Eleven airport ice control products had TP concentrations from 1-807 mg L in liquid formulas, while solid pavement deicer had a TP concentration of 805 mg kg. Product application data, formula TP concentrations, and surface water sampling results were used to estimate TP concentration and loading contributions from these ice control products to receiving streams. Airport ice control products were found to contribute to TP in 84% of the water samples collected at downstream sites during deicing events, and TP concentrations at those sites exceeded aquatic life benchmarks in 70% of samples collected during deicing. A receiving stream 6 km downstream had TP attributed to airport ice control sources in 78% of the samples. TP loadings at an upstream site and the receiving stream site were greatest during the largest runoff events as is typical in urban runoff, but this pattern was not always followed at airport outfall sites due to the influence of TP in deicer products. Products analyzed in this study are used at airports across the United States and abroad, and findings suggest that airport deicers could represent a previously unrecognized source of phosphorus to adjacent waterways.

Background: The use of donor kidneys with acute kidney injury (AKI) aims to expand the organ pool, but uncertainty remains regarding their outcomes across different Kidney Donor Profile Index (KDPI) groups and preservation methods.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 108 160 deceased donor kidney transplants from the OPTN database, focusing on adult recipients of kidneys from donors with or without AKI between December 2014 and December 2022. Propensity matching was used for each KDPI group (1-20, 21-59, 60-84, and 85-100), comparing donors with AKIN stages 0-1 to AKIN stages 2-3.

This work focuses on the incorporation of 2D carbon nanomaterials, such as graphene oxide (GO), reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs), into polypropylene (PP) via melt mixing. The addition of these 2D carbon nanostructured networks offers a novel approach to enhancing/controlling the water vapor permeable capabilities of PP composite membranes, widely used in industrial applications, such as technical (building roof membranes) or medical (surgical gowns) textiles. The study investigates how the dispersion and concentration of these graphene nanomaterials within the PP matrix influence the microstructure and water vapor permeability (WVP) performance.

Achilles tendon overuse injuries are common for long-distance runners. Ankle exos (exoskeletons and exosuits) are wearable devices that can reduce Achilles tendon loading and could potentially aid in the rehabilitation or prevention of these injuries by helping to mitigate and control tissue loading. However, most ankle exos are confined to controlled lab testing and are not practical to use in real-world running.

To get insight into the thawing and salting in recovery and protection mechanisms on quality in frozen meat after subsequent cooking. The myofiber morphological-water evolution and quality changes in beef during freezing-thawing-cooking and freezing-cooking treatments were investigated. The cooking losses of fresh-cooked, frozen-cooked, and frozen-thawed-cooked samples were 27.

During the 2019 Chinese National Microbiological Food Safety Surveillance program, was detected in ice cream samples produced by Manufacturer A. By comparing the sequences of isolates derived from the ice cream with those of isolates derived from humans, we identified one human-derived isolate that was genetically indistinguishable from one ice cream-derived isolates. The patient was hospitalized with listeriosis in Beijing, China in March 2019.
