The alkaline phosphatases (ALPs) are highly promiscuous enzymes and have been extensively investigated in mammals for their medical significance, but their functional promiscuity is relatively poorly understood in insects. Here, we first identified four ALP genes (designated as ) in the vetch aphid that contained one alkaline phosphatase site, three metal-binding sites, and varied other functional sites. Phylogenetic analysis, molecular docking and the spatiotemporal expression profiling of were very different, indicating a promiscuous functionality. We also found that MvALP4 involved the biosynthesis of aphid alarm pheromones (EβF) and . Finally, transcriptome analysis in the stimulated and unstimulated aphids supported the involvement of MvALPs in the biosynthesis of aphid alarm pheromones. Our study identified a multifunctional ALP involved terpene synthase enzyme activity in the aphid, which contributes to the understanding of the functional plasticity of ALPs in insects.

Background: Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) has been used as an effective noninvasive method for treating fractures and osteoarthrosis, but the application in the field of oral implantation is in its infancy. This study aimed to clarify the effect and mechanism of LIPUS on the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and implant osseointegration, and to provide an experimental basis for future clinical applications.
Methods: Dental implants were inserted into Wistar rat femurs, and LIPUS was performed for 4 weeks.

The imbalance of redox homeostasis, especially the abnormal levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), is a key obstacle in the bone repair process. Therefore, developing materials capable of scavenging ROS and modulating the microenvironment of bone defects is crucial for promoting bone repair. In this study, to endow poly(amino acids) (PAA) and its composites with anti-oxidative stress properties and enhanced osteogenic differentiation, we designed and prepared a calcium sulfate/calcium hydrogen phosphate/poly(amino acids) (PCDM) composite material with a thioether structure (-S-) in the molecular chain of PAA matrix through situ polymerization and physical blending method.

Objective: We sought to develop a machine learning (ML) preoperative model to predict bile leak following hepatectomy for primary and secondary liver cancer.
Methods: An eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) model was developed to predict post-hepatectomy bile leak using data from the ACS-NSQIP database. The model was externally validated using data from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) multi-institutional databases.

Dietary Astragalus polysaccharides (APS) get wide application in aquaculture due to their excellent immunoregulatory effects. However, little is known about the effects of dietary APS on vaccine potency in fish. In the present study, large yellow croakers (Larimichthys crocea) were injected with formalin-inactivated Pseudomonas plecoglossicida after APS feeding for 14 d and then challenged by live P.

To enhance the health and performance of poultry, novel approaches have to be created. Using appropriate nutritional interventions to enhance body physiology and thus enhance productivity is one of these approaches. The purpose of the present investigation intended to examine how growing quail physiology and growth is affected by supplementing diets with tryptophan (Trp) and/or canthaxanthin (CX).
