AI Article Synopsis

  • The study focuses on a simple probe (L), made from ethylenediamine and 3-ethoxysalicyaldehyde, used for detecting Fe and Fe ions.
  • Single crystal X-ray structures reveal that the probe effectively interacts with these metal ions, and in aqueous-DMSO environments, it can also recognize arsenate (AsO) through fluorescence and colorimetric methods.
  • The probe significantly enhances fluorescence by 91-fold through PET inhibition and H-bond-assisted chelation, achieving detection limits of 0.354 ppb for Fe, 0.22 ppb for Fe, and 0.235 ppt for AsO.

Article Abstract

The detection and discrimination of Fe and Fe ions have been investigated using a simple probe (L), produced by the condensation of ethylenediamine and 3-ethoxysalicyaldehyde. Single crystal X-ray structures demonstrate that L interacts with Fe and Fe. In aqueous-DMSO media, the L recognises AsO by fluorescence and colorimetry techniques. The AsO aided PET inhibition and H-bond assisted chelation enhanced fluorescence (CHEF) boost fluorescence by 91-fold. The L can detect 0.354 ppb Fe, 0.22 ppb Fe and 0.235 ppt AsO.
