Although metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have been extensively used as fluorescent-based antibiotic sensors, newly developed hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) are largely unexplored toward this direction. To realize this, the luminescent HOFs must be stable in water as the analytes are mostly found in water-based effluents in environments. In addition, HOFs should be equipped with specific recognition sites in order to direct the discrimination among the antibiotics.

VS4 has emerged as a promising cathode material for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs), attracting significant interest due to its unique layered atomic chain structure and high capacity. However, the low electrical conductivity of the material limits the diffusion rate of zinc ions, ultimately compromising its structural stability. In this study, we demonstrate the synthesis of nanorods through a simple hydrothermal recombination of carbon dots on vanadium sulfide.

Glucocorticoids induced osteoporosis (GIOP) is a global concern without effective therapies. The present study investigated the potential of the umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UCMSCs) and traditional medicine Piper longum L. in the reversal of GIOP.

We report on the U-shaped folding of flexible guest molecules of medicinal interest upon their inclusion into macrocyclic cavity of p-sulfonato-calix[4]arene in aqueous media. Alexidine and pentamidine are FDA-approved drug compounds currently rediscovered as potent membrane-targeting antibiotic adjuvants helping restore antibiotic activity against multidrug resistant bacteria pathogens. We have adopted host-guest and crystal engineering approach to study these drugs with a view of potential supramolecular formulations and/or crystal forms.

Vanadium oxides are attracted cathodes for aqueous zinc batteries owing to their high capacity. However, the limited cyclability of vanadium-based oxide cathodes, especially at low current densities, impedes their practical application. Here, it is revealed that proton insertion is responsible for the limited lifetime of vanadium oxides.
