The use of ultrasonic elastic waves is a well established technique for non-destructive testing of materials and structures, in particular to exploit the interaction of waves with structural features to detect and characterize defects. Optical methods offer the advantage of visualising the distribution of elastic waves in a non-contact manner without disturbing the elastic wave. In this work we propose a laser feedback interferometry (LFI) based system as a cost effective, non-contact, alternative to a well established laser Doppler vibrometer technique. We demonstrate the visualization of the elastic waves, using an example of an elastic wave propagating through a prismatic acrylic rod. We show that the ultra-compact and simple implementation of LFI enables accurate visualization of the elastic waves in solids, and opens the pathway to a range of new opportunities in ultrasonic non-destructive testing and evaluation.

Relying on the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway Cao Mao Shan tunnel project, blasting vibration monitoring and sound wave testing experiments were carried out. The monitoring results show that the blasting vibration velocity corresponding to the initial support satisfies the Sadowski formula. The results of the sonic test show that with the increase of blasting times, the cumulative damage increases gradually, but the blasting damage increment shows a downward trend.

Introduction: Straw phonation therapy, a form of semi-occluded vocal tract (SOVT) exercise, is commonly used to help treat various voice disorders. Although straw phonation therapy has been studied extensively for decades, the impact of straw depth on vocal function remains unexplored. This study aims to quantify the effects of various straw vocal tract insertion depths (VTID) into the vocal tract on common aerodynamic parameters such as phonation threshold pressure (PTP), phonation threshold flow (PTF), and phonation threshold power (PTW) in an ex vivo canine model.

Cardiovascular risk factors begin in childhood and track into adulthood, increasing the possibility of impaired cardiometabolic health. Adopting healthy dietary patterns can help curb childhood obesity, a worrisome epidemic problem at present. In the era of personalized nutrition, dietary recommendations should be adapted to different stages of life, including children (older than 3 years) and adolescents.

Background: New respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccines have been approved in the USA for the prevention of RSV-associated lower respiratory tract disease in adults aged 60 years and older. Information on the real-world effectiveness of these vaccines is needed.
Methods: We used electronic health records in the Veterans Health Administration to emulate a target trial comparing a single dose of a recombinant stabilised prefusion F protein RSV vaccine versus no vaccination among veterans aged 60 years and older.

To consistently determine the anomalous characteristics of phthalic acid crystal (PAC) derivatives, we performed quantum dynamics simulations of the infrared spectral density of the h-PAC and d-PAC isotopomers that show up in the H/D isotopic frequency domain at two different temperatures viz. 77 and 298 K. A theoretical framework explaining the dynamical cooperative interactions within the hydrogen bonds (HBs) in the PAC crystals across a simulation of IR spectral density of the stretching band was developed.
