Research has shown that microRNAs exhibit regular dysregulation in cancers, making them potential biomarkers for cancer diagnosis. However, achieving specific and sensitive detection of microRNAs has been a challenging task. To address this issue, two-dimensional networked graphdiyne is used to fabricate a self-powered biosensor and establish a new approach for ultra-responsive dual-mode detection of miRNA-141, a breast cancer biomarker. This method detects miRNA-141 using both electrochemical and colorimetric modes by measuring the output electrical signal of an enzyme-based biofuel cell and the RGB blue value of the electrolyte solution. Tetrahedral DNA and DNA nanorods also are immobilized on the electrode as a biocathode and methylene blue is used as the electron acceptor, which is fixed in the DNA phosphate backbone through electrostatic adsorption. The bioanode catalyzes the oxidation of glucose to produce electrons, which reduces methylene blue to its reduced form, resulting in a high open-circuit voltage (E) and a highger RGB Blue value, enabling dual-mode detection. A reliable linear correlation is observed between E values and miRNA-141 concentrations ranging from 0.0001 to 100 pM, with a detection limit of 21.9 aM (S/N = 3). Additionally, the colorimetric mode also demonstrates a reliable linear correlation with a concentration range of 0.0001-10000 pM, and this method can detect a concentration of 22.2 aM (S/N = 3). This innovative research realizes sensitive and accurate determination of miRNA-141 and provides an important new method for cancer diagnosis.

The human brain connectome is characterized by the duality of highly modular structure and efficient integration, supporting information processing. Newborns with congenital heart disease (CHD), prematurity, or spina bifida aperta (SBA) constitute a population at risk for altered brain development and developmental delay (DD). We hypothesize that, independent of etiology, alterations of connectomic organization reflect neural circuitry impairments in cognitive DD.

Exploratory analysis of single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) typically relies on hard clustering over two-dimensional projections like uniform manifold approximation and projection (UMAP). However, such methods can severely distort the data and have many arbitrary parameter choices. Methods that can model scRNA-seq data as non-discrete "gene expression programs" (GEPs) can better preserve the data's structure, but currently, they are often not scalable, not consistent across repeated runs, and lack an established method for choosing key parameters.

Axions, hypothetical elementary particles that remain undetectable in nature, can arise as quasiparticles in three-dimensional crystals known as axion insulators. Previous implementations of axion insulators have largely been limited to two-dimensional systems, leaving their topological properties in three dimensions unexplored in experiment. Here, we realize an axion insulator in a three-dimensional photonic crystal and probe its topological properties.

Superoxide dismutase (SOD) plays an important role to respond in the defence against damage when tomato leaves are under different types of adversity stresses. This work employed microhyperspectral imaging (MHSI) and visible near-infrared (Vis-NIR) hyperspectral imaging (HSI) technologies to predict tomato leaf SOD activity. The macroscopic model of SOD activity in tomato leaves was constructed using the convolutional neural network in conjunction with the long and short-term temporal memory (CNN-LSTM) technique.

Heatable super hydrophobic polyurethane (PU) sponges (S-GNS/CNT/PVA@PU) containing three-dimensional (3D) carbon nano-networks (CNNs) coatings made from two-dimensional (2D) expanded graphite nano-sheets (GNS) bridged by one-dimensional (1D) carbon nano-tubes (CNT) were constructed using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as binder, in which light and/or electric energy could be rapidly converted into heat to reduce the viscosity of spilled heavy oils, resulting in greatly increased oil. Their heavy oil recovery rate could reach 792 kg/(m·h) under combined light and Joule heating of 1 sun and 5 V. Surface heat dissipating coefficient Ks, heat dissipating index n, and surface heat absorption capacity Cs were studied relating to sizes and shapes of surface heating fields under varied heating modes.
