Surface chemistry plays an important role in the indoor environment owing to the large indoor surface to volume ratio. This study explores the photoreactivity of surfaces painted with a photoactive paint in the presence of NO. Two types of experiments are performed; illumination of painted surfaces with a nitrate deposit and illumination of painted surfaces in the presence of gaseous NO. For both types of experiments, illumination with a fluorescent bulb causes the greatest change in measured gaseous NO concentrations. Results show that relative humidity and paint composition play an important role in the photoreactivity of indoor painted surfaces. Painted surfaces could contribute to gas-phase oxidant concentrations indoors.

Background: Immunogenic cell death (ICD) inducers are often identified in phenotypic screening campaigns by the release or surface exposure of various danger-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) from malignant cells. This study aimed to streamline the identification of ICD inducers by leveraging cellular morphological correlates of ICD, specifically the condensation of nucleoli (CON).
Methods: We applied artificial intelligence (AI)-based imaging analyses to Cell Paint-stained cells exposed to drug libraries, identifying CON as a marker for ICD.

An important issue in obtaining a good casting surface without defects in contact with the liquid metal is the use of protective coatings on the surface of the moulding sand forming the mould cavity. Protective coatings are based on highly refractory materials that are finely ground and protect the moulding sand from thermal stresses from the molten metal. An important aspect of obtaining the appropriate properties of the protective coatings used is the method of application.

The development of superhydrophobic, waterproof, and breathable membranes, as well as icephobic surfaces, has attracted growing interest. Fluorinated polymers like PTFE or PVDF are highly effective, and previous research by the authors has shown that combining these polymers with electrospinning-induced roughness enhances their hydro- and ice-phobicity. The infusion of these electrospun mats with lubricant oil further improves their icephobic properties, achieving a slippery liquid-infused porous surface (SLIPS).

The Ag NWs/TCMs/WPU/PET fabric was prepared by coating the polyester (PET) fabric with Ag NWs/TCMs/WPU paint. First, an electrothermochromic paint was fabricated by incorporating waterborne polyurethane (WPU) and thermochromic microcapsules (TCMs) into silver nanowire (Ag NW) dispersions, and then the Ag NWs/TCMs/WPU paint was applied to polyester (PET) fabrics via brushing, thereby integrating electrothermal and color-changing properties into a single functional layer. The color change test and DSC data demonstrate that the Ag NWs/TCMs/WPU paint exhibits a reversible color change effect, and the flexibility test data indicate that the coating's resistance remains essentially unchanged after 1000 bending cycles.

This review focuses on recent progress of wet-chemistry-based synthesis methods for infrared (IR) colloidal quantum dots (CQD), semiconductor nanocrystals with a narrow energy bandgap that absorbs and/or emits IR photos covering from 0.7 to 25 micrometers. The sections of the review are colloidal synthesis, precursor reactivity, cation exchange, doping and de-doping, surface passivation and ligand exchange, intraband transitions, quenching and purification, and future directions.
