In this issue of Neuron, Zheng et al. report the monomeric architecture of mechanosensitive ion channels TMEM63A and TMEM63B. They show that these high-threshold channels function as monomers on the plasma membrane.

Purines such as ATP are regulatory transmitters in motility of the gastrointestinal tract. The aims of this study were to propose functional roles of purinergic regulation of esophageal motility. An isolated segment of the rat esophagus was placed in an organ bath, and mechanical responses were recorded using a force transducer.

Optical manipulation of nanomaterials using light resonant with material excitations holds promise for enhancing optical forces and sorting particles by unique quantum properties. Conventional resonant optical sorting mainly relies on absorption and scattering forces, making it difficult to sort nanomaterials by specific emission lines. Furthermore, emission typically induces negligible force unless the material is highly anisotropic, limiting selective manipulation via emission characteristics.

Background: Hinge fracture on the lateral part of the tibia (LHF) is a common complication of medial Open Wedge High Tibial Osteotomy (OWHTO). Many factors have been described as risks for these fractures, but no study has compared an osteotome or an oscillating saw to prevent LHF following OWHTO.
Methods: This "propensity-score-matched" (PSM) study was conducted from data obtained in the literature from 1974 to November 2024.

Water participates in countless processes on Earth, and the properties of mineral surfaces can be drastically changed in the presence of water. For example, the fracture toughness of silica glass is reduced by 25% for water-filled cracks than for dry cracks [ , , 9341-9354]. An accurate description of water is therefore essential for modeling the behavior of minerals in aqueous environments and, in particular, for modeling dynamic processes such as fracture, where the mechanical response of water may play an important role.

Introduction: Restricted mouth opening has major health implications, such as malnutrition, difficulty in speech, and poor oral hygiene resulting in a functional shortage of the masticatory system. Reduced mouth opening can occur due to trismus, as in the oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) condition. Excision of fibrous bands in OSMF leads to reestablishment of the mouth opening.
