Published: September 2023

In the present study the interaction of a sine-Gordon kink with a localized inhomogeneity is considered. In the absence of dissipation, the inhomogeneity considered is found to impose a potential energy barrier. The motion of the kink for near-critical values of velocities separating transmission from barrier reflection is studied. Moreover, the existence and stability properties of the kink at the relevant saddle point are examined and its dynamics is found to be accurately captured by effective low-dimensional models. In the case where there is dissipation in the system, below the threshold value of the current, a stable kink is found to exist in the immediate vicinity of the barrier. The effective particle motion of the kink is investigated obtaining very good agreement with the result of the original field model. Both one and two degree-of-freedom settings are examined with the latter being more efficient than the former in capturing the details of the kink motion.

This research delves into the dynamic behavior of acoustic levitation of the particle chain in a nonlinear standing wave field. Experimental acoustic levitation control tests reveal bifurcation and jump phenomena during dynamic adjustments to resonant cavity height. Employing the 10-particle chain experiments and the COMSOL simulation models, the Sine-Gordon 2D vibration model is established to study the dynamic deformation process of the particle chain.

We consider systems of N particles interacting on the unit circle through 2π-periodic potentials. An example is the N-rotor problem that arises as the classical limit of coupled Josephson junctions and for various energies is known to have a wide range of behaviors such as global chaos and ergodicity, together with families of periodic solutions and transitions from order to chaos. We focus here on selected initial values for generalized systems in which the second order Euler-Lagrange equations reduce to first order equations, which we show by example can describe an ensemble of oscillators with associated emergent phenomena such as synchronization.

Modern hybrid superconductor-semiconductor Josephson junction arrays are a promising platform for analog quantum simulations. Their controllable and nonsinusoidal energy-phase relation opens the path to implement nontrivial interactions and study the emergence of exotic quantum phase transitions. Here, we propose the analysis of an array of hybrid Josephson junctions defining a two-leg ladder geometry for the quantum simulation of the tricritical Ising phase transition.

In the present work we explore the interaction of a quasi-one-dimensional line kink of the sine-Gordon equation moving in two-dimensional spatial domains. We develop an effective equation describing the kink motion, characterizing its center position dynamics as a function of the transverse variable. The relevant description is valid both in the Hamiltonian realm and in the nonconservative one bearing gain and loss.

We present the first exact theory and analytical formulas for the large-scale phase fluctuations in the sine-Gordon model, valid in all regimes of the field theory, for arbitrary temperatures and interaction strengths. Our result is based on the ballistic fluctuation theory combined with generalized hydrodynamics, and can be seen as an exact "dressing" of the phenomenological soliton-gas picture first introduced by Sachdev and Young [Phys. Rev.
