Purpose: Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) are a group of rare genetic diseases and heart involvement is one of the important conflicts in most types, which may cause serious complications. We used M-Mode and two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) to explore cardiovascular involvements in MPS patients.

Method: The present cross-sectional study investigated the frequency of cardiac involvements in MPS patients. Included participants were MPS types I, II, III, IV, and VI who underwent specialized echocardiography exams to assess valvular function, systolic and diastolic function, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and global longitudinal strain (GLS).

Results: 35 patients were enrolled in this study. The total mean age of patients was 9.58 ± 5.11 years and 71.4% were male. Type IV (40%) and type III (31.4%) were the most frequent MPS. Although LVEF did not differ notably among MPS types, GLS was significantly different (p = 0.029). Mitral regurgitation was observed remarkably more in MPS type III (p = 0.001) while mitral stenosis was more common in type III (p = 0.007). There was a significant association between LVEF and GLS (β= -0.662; p = 0.025) and between LVEF and MPS type (β = 1.82; p = 0.025) when adjusted for GLS.

Conclusion: Cardiac complications are very common and are one of the most important causes of death in MPS patients. 2D-STE seems to be superior to M-Mode for detection of early and subclinical cardiac dysfunction in MPS patients.

Implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation for patients with severely atrophic jaws is challenging due to complex anatomical considerations and the limitations of conventional augmentation techniques. This study explores the potential of subperiosteal (juxta-osseous) implants as an alternative solution, using finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate mechanical performance. Realistic jaw models, developed from radiographic data, are utilized to simulate various implant configurations and load scenarios.

Background: Advanced airway management is of fundamental importance in almost all areas of anesthesiology, emergency medicine, and critical care. Securing the airway is of the utmost importance, as this is a prerequisite for the oxygenation of the human organism. The clinical relevance of airway management is particularly evident in the fact that the primary cause of significant anesthesia-related complications can be attributed to this field.

Introduction: Mucopolysaccharidosis type VI (MPSVI), an autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder caused by pathogenic variants in gene. Usually, whole exome sequencing (WES) can identify these variants, and if WES failed to detect causative variants, whole-genome sequencing (WGS) may be considered to investigate deep intronic variations and structural alterations in patients.

Methods: Whole-exome sequencing (WES) and whole genome sequencing (WGS) were performed in a Chinese family having a boy with suspected diagnosis of MPS with macrocephaly, coarse facial features, broad forehead, thick lips, frontal bossing, craniosynostosis, blue spots, frequent upper respiratory infections, inguinal hernia, and dysostosis multiplex.

Mucopolysaccharidosis type II (MPS II), also known as Hunter syndrome, is an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder. It results from a deficiency of the enzyme iduronate-2-sulfatase (I2S), leading to the accumulation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in various tissues and organs. Clinical manifestations include skeletal abnormalities, facial coarsening, organ enlargement, and developmental delays.

Background: Black individuals frequently present with resistant hypertension and disproportionately increased cardiovascular risk. We investigated the blood pressure (BP)-lowering effect of the dual endothelin receptor antagonist aprocitentan in Black individuals enrolled in the PRECISION study (Parallel-Group, Phase 3 Study with Aprocitentan in Subjects with Resistant Hypertension).

Methods: Patients with confirmed resistant hypertension were randomized to aprocitentan 12.
