Background: We assessed the predictive values of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), fat distribution, and their interaction on the development of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in a community-based cohort of middle-aged and older individuals.
Methods: This prospective study involved 1349 adults (43.2% men) aged 50-80 y, without baseline cardiovascular diseases, from communities in 2013-2014. All participants were followed up for a mean of 7.6 y via phone calls and medical records. Serum NGAL concentrations were analyzed at baseline. Fat distribution, including subcutaneous fat area and visceral fat area (VFA), was assessed by magnetic resonance imaging.
Results: In fully-adjusted Cox regression models, baseline high NGAL concentrations were related to an increased risk of MACE in women [HR 1.75, 95% CI 1.03-2.99], compared with low NGAL concentrations. After stratification by VFA concentrations, the observed association was more predominant in women with baseline low VFA (HR 1.24, 95% CI 1.11-1.38). Moreover, the association between NGAL and MACE was interacted by VFA, strengthening the association at low VFA concentrations (P < 0.05).
Conclusions: Serum NGAL determined at baseline predicts the development of MACE, and the association is modified by VFA in women.

Endocrine ophthalmopathy (EO; also called Graves' ophthalmopathy, thyroid eye disease) is a common extrathyroidal manifestation of Graves' disease, characterized by the presence of autoimmune inflammatory process in the orbital soft tissues. The prevalence of EO is approximately 10 cases per 10.000 population, higher in individuals over 50 years old.

Milk anti-inflammatory compounds are ubiquitous in milk but vary greatly within and between populations. The causes of this variation and how this variation impacts infant phenotype is not well-characterized. The goal of this study was to explain how maternal characteristics across two disparate populations impact the levels of TGF-β2 and IL-1ra in human milk.

Although studies have examined the association of the Relative Fat Mass (RFM, a novel anthropometric index used as a surrogate for whole-body fat percentage) with all-cause mortality, the association of RFM with diabetes-related mortality and heart disease mortality has not been thoroughly investigated. In addition, no study has compared the associations of RFM and waist circumference (a surrogate for intra-abdominal fat) with cause-specific mortality and all-cause mortality. In the present study, we addressed these knowledge gaps.

Introduction: The differential diagnosis of orbital complications of rhinosinusitis with diseases of the lacrimal sac in childhood remains unresolved both due to the similarity of the symptoms of the diseases and due to certain diagnostic difficulties requiring computed tomography.
Objective: To develop an algorithm for routing a patient to the emergency department of a multidisciplinary emergency hospital based on clinical and diagnostic distinctive features of sinusitis with orbital complications and diseases of the lacrimal sac with reactive edema of the eyelids.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective cohort analysis of children's medical histories, who were treated in the otorhinolaryngological and ophthalmological departments of the Morozovskaya Children's City Clinical Hospital during 2022 was performed for orbital complications of rhinosinusitis or dacryocystitis with reactive edema of the eyelids.

Background: Obesity is the primary cause of metabolic associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Healthy lifestyle management has potential value in the treatment of MASLD.
Methods: A total of 150 patients with MASLD diagnosed at the Health Management Center of our hospital were enrolled and randomly divided into a traditional treatment (control group, n=75) and healthy lifestyle group (observation group, n=75).
