Antiviral drugs likely remain effective against the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant, while monoclonal antibody (mAb) therapies have experienced drops in neutralizing ability. This systematic review and network meta-analysis aims to estimate the comparative effectiveness of antivirals and mAb therapies for treating COVID-19 patients infected with Omicron, capturing primarily acute outcomes. We searched multiple databases from July 4 to July 19, 2022, with updates through November 4, 2022.

Despite the end of COVID-19 pandemic, only intravenous remdesivir was approved for treatment of vulnerable pediatric populations. Molnupiravir is effective against viruses beyond SARS-CoV-2 and is orally administrable without CYP-interaction liabilities but has a burden of potential bone or cartilage toxicity, observed at doses exceeding 500 mg/kg/day in rats. Novel and repurposed antiviral drugs are available for the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, antiviral combinations may be more potent and lead to faster viral clearance, but the methods for screening antiviral combinations against respiratory viruses are not well established and labor-intensive. Here, we describe a time-efficient (72-96 h) and simple drug-sensitivity assay for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) using standard 96-well plates.

Racial and ethnic minorities have been disproportionally burdened by hospitalization and death due to COVID-19. Participation of individuals of diverse races and ethnicities in clinical trials according to study-level characteristics of randomized controlled trials (RCT) that test effectiveness of COVID-19 drugs could be insightful for future researchers. The objective of this scoping review was to describe frequency of race and ethnicity reported as demographic variables and specific reporting of race and ethnicity according to COVID-19 RCT characteristics.
