Golden cyst nematodes have threatened the cultivation of 'Toyoshiro', a major potato variety used for chip processing in Japan. Common scab is a soilborne disease that occurs in potato fields worldwide. To solve these problems, we crossed two US varieties and selected a clone that showed a slightly higher marketable yield and a significantly higher yield rate, compared with 'Toyoshiro', and had good chip processing quality, extreme resistance to cyst nematodes, and moderately high resistance to common scab. This clone was named 'Poroshiri'; it is the first variety released from the Calbee Potato breeding program.

This study aimed to identify splicing quantitative trait loci (cis-sQTL) in Nelore cattle muscle tissue and explore the involvement of spliced genes (sGenes) in immune system-related biological processes. Genotypic data from 80 intact male Nelore cattle were obtained using SNP-Chip technology, while RNA-Seq analysis was performed to measure gene expression levels, enabling the integration of genomic and transcriptomic datasets. The normalized expression levels of spliced transcripts were associated with single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) through an analysis of variance using an additive linear model with the MatrixEQTL package.

This study advances microfluidic probe (MFP) technology through the development of a 3D-printed Microfluidic Mixing Probe (MMP), which integrates a built-in pre-mixer network of channels and features a lined array of paired injection and aspiration apertures. By combining the concepts of hydrodynamic flow confinements (HFCs) and "Christmas-tree" concentration gradient generation, the MMP can produce multiple concentration-varying flow dipoles, ranging from 0 to 100%, within an open microfluidic environment. This innovation overcomes previous limitations of MFPs, which only produced homogeneous bioreagents, by utilizing the pre-mixer to create distinct concentration of injected biochemicals.

Background: High concentration protein formulation (HCPF) development needs to balance protein stability attributes such as conformational/colloidal stability, chemical stability, and solution properties such as viscosity and osmolality.
Methodology: A three-phase design is established in this work. In Phase 1, conformational and colloidal stability are measured by 384-well-based high-throughput (HT) biophysical screening while viscosity reduction screening is performed with HT viscosity screening.

Background: Cervical cancer is a major health burden in females worldwide, available studies indicated that sex-determining region Y-box 2 (SOX2) is closely related to the malignant phenotypes of multiple cancers including cervical cancer. However, the underlying mechanisms were blurred.
Experimental Procedures: A bioinformatics analysis was conducted to investigate the clinical correlation between SOX2 and cervical cancer.

Hybrid nonlinear plasmonic waveguides, characterized by a small mode area and large nonlinear susceptibility, present an intriguing and practical platform for the minimization of nonlinear photonic devices. Nevertheless, the intrinsic Ohmic loss associated with surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) and modal dispersion imposes constraints on the effective interaction length and, consequently, the ultimate efficiency of nonlinear processes. In this study, we demonstrate an efficient second harmonic generation (SHG) within a hybrid plasmonic waveguide by leveraging SPP-like modes at the fundamental wave and photonic-like modes at the SHG under phase matching conditions.
