The development of spinal cord represents evolutionary progression. The primitive tract is responsible for functions related to basic survival such as locomotion. In contrast, the developed tracts are involved in perceiving the external environment and controlling conscious movements. There are also differences in the arrangement of spinal tracts between the 2 categories. Tracts serving developed functions are located in the deep layer of the lateral funiculus, whereas primitive tracts occupy other areas. Decussation correlates with tract pathways, with primitive tracts projecting ipsilaterally and developing tracts decussating early. Understanding these principles provides insights into spinal tract organization.

Background: Postoperative urinary retention (POUR), a known complication following total joint arthroplasty (TJA), remains inconsistent in its diagnostic criteria, prevalence, and risk factors. This study aims to quantify POUR rates, identify risk factors, and assess complications associated with catheterization in TJA.
Methods: A single-center cohort undergoing TJA between January 2015 and December 2022 was retrospectively reviewed.

The degeneration of pyramidal tracts has been reported in frontotemporal lobar degeneration with TDP-43 (TAR DNA-binding protein 43) pathology (FTLD-TDP) type C. Herein, we examined the detailed pathology of the primary motor area and pyramidal tracts in the central nervous system in four autopsy cases of FTLD-TDP type C, all of which were diagnosed by neuropathological, biochemical, and genomic analyses. Three patients showed right dominant atrophy of the frontal and temporal lobes, while the other patient showed left dominant atrophy.

A spinal cord injury (SCI) leads to neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD), which, if left untreated, can result not only in urinary incontinence and an increased risk of urinary tract infections and kidney dysfunction but may also pose a vital threat to people with SCI. Comprehensive neurourological assessments, including patient history and combined video urodynamics, are essential to accurately classify dysfunction and establish therapeutic strategies. Treatment options include, among others, medications for detrusor regulation, intermittent catheterization, and, if necessary, surgical interventions from intradetrusor botulinum toxin A injections to sacral deafferentation.

Background: Spinal tuberculosis is a common cause of spinal deformity and neurological dysfunction, with surgical treatment being crucial in severe cases. This study evaluates the efficacy and safety of combined anterior and posterior surgery with autologous tricortical iliac bone and rib grafting for treating spinal tuberculosis.
Methods: We included 61 patients with thoracic tuberculosis, who underwent a surgical procedure involving initial posterior correction, followed by anterior debridement and reconstruction with autologous tricortical iliac bone and rib grafts.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in functional deficits below the injured spinal level. The descending serotonergic system in the spinal cord is critically involved in the control of motor and autonomic functions. Specifically, SCI damages the projections of serotonergic fibers, which leads to reduced serotonin inputs and increased amounts of spinal serotonergic receptors.
