Since the discovery of polyphenolic resins 150 years ago, the study of polymeric compounds named calix[]arene has continued to progress, and those skilled in the art perfectly know now how to modulate this phenolic ring. Consequently, calix[]arenes are now used in a large range of applications and notably in therapeutic fields. In particular, the calix[4]arene exhibits multiple possibilities for regioselective polyfunctionalization on both of its rims and offers researchers the possibility of precisely tuning the geometry of their structures. Thus, in the crucial research of new antibacterial active ingredients, the design of calixarenes finds its place perfectly. This review provides an overview of the work carried out in this aim towards the development of intrinsically active prodrogues or metallic calixarene complexes. Out of all the work of the community, there are some excellent activities emerging that could potentially place these original structures in a very good position for the development of new active ingredients.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been employed for centuries in treating and managing Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, their effective delivery to target sites can be a major challenge. This is due to their poor water solubility, low bioavailability, and potential toxicity.

Poor aqueous solubility of crystalline active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) restricts their bioavailability. Amorphous solid dispersions with biocompatible polymer excipients offer a solution to overcome this problem, potentially enabling a broader use of many drug candidate molecules. This work addresses various aspects of the design of a suitable combination of an API and a polymer to form such a binary solid dispersion.

Background: In Latin America, there is a high incidence of vampire bat-transmitted rabies in cattle causing increased mortality of livestock, which heavily impacts the agricultural sector. Anticoagulants-based control methods for the common vampire bat (Desmodus rotundus) have been employed continuously since the 1970s with various methods of application, presentations, doses and active ingredients. Studies from half a century ago still serve as a reference for the current use of anticoagulants for bat-borne rabies control in Latin America.

Hydrogels in agriculture offer controlled release, however, face issues with rapid disintegration, swift release, and inability to protect active ingredients. To overcome this, the study presents a hydrogel delivery system that uses dopamine-functionalized nanoporous diatom (DE-PDA) microparticles entrapped in alginate and chitosan matrices to deliver plant growth hormone, gibberellic acid (GA) that suffers from instability, limiting its field application. Developed GA@hydrogel beads exhibited an encapsulation efficiency of 85.
