The present study investigated the insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) and their receptors and binding proteins among three pig breeds during weaning. Sixty Duroc (DR), Taoyuan black (TYB), and Xiangcun black (XCB) piglets (20 piglets per breed) were selected at 21 and 24 (3 days of post-weaning) days of age to analyze organ indices, plasma concentrations of IGF and IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs) using ELISA kits, and gene expression of IGF-system-related components in different tissues. The plasma IGFBP-3 concentration in TYB piglets was higher ( > 0.05) than in the XCB and DR piglets at 21 days of age. At 21 days of age, compared with the DR piglets, the expression was lower ( < 0.05) in the kidney, but it was higher ( < 0.05) in the spleen of XCB and TYB piglets. At 24 days of age, the expression was higher ( < 0.05) in the kidney of TYB piglets than in the XCB and DR piglets, while in the stomach and in the liver of XCB and TYB piglets were lower ( < 0.05) compared with the DR piglets. Weaning down-regulated ( < 0.05) expression in the jejunum, spleen, and liver of piglets, while it up-regulated ( < 0.05) expression in the stomach, in the liver, in the ileum, and in the jejunum of DR piglets. Spearman's correlation analysis showed a negative correlation ( < 0.05) between plasma IGFBP-2 and IGFBP-5 concentration and the organ indices of piglets. Collectively, there were significant differences in the IGF system components among the three pig breeds. The IGF system components were altered during weaning, which might be involved in weaning stress to decrease the growth of piglets.

Neonates with congenital heart disease (CHD) who undergo cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) are at high-risk for unfavorable neurodevelopmental (ND) outcomes and are recommended for ND evaluation (NDE); however, poor rates have been reported. We aimed to identify risk factors associated with lack of NDE. This single-center retrospective observational study included neonates < 30 days old who underwent CPB and survived to discharge between 2012 and 2018.

Background: The aims of this cohort study were to identify (1) the incidence and risk factors for axillary web syndrome (AWS) with shoulder movement limitation within 4 weeks after axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) for Asian women with breast cancer (BC), and (2) whether early intervention with physical therapy (PT) could improve AWS, and how many PT sessions would be needed.
Methods: A cohort study of patients with BC receiving ALND was performed at Changhua Christian Hospital, Taiwan, between January 2019 and December 2020. Those patients who were diagnosed with AWS with shoulder movement limitation were referred to receive PT twice weekly at the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Real-world data on treatment outcomes or the quality of large-scale chronic hepatitis B (CHB) treatment programs in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is extremely difficult to obtain. In this study, we aimed to provide data on the prevalence and incidence of mortality, loss to follow-up (LFTU), and their associated factors in patients with CHB in three treatment centres in Eritrea. Additional information includes baseline clinical profiles of CHB patients initiated on nucleos(t)ide analogue (NUCs) along with a comparison of treatment with Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) vs.

Background: Aspiration pneumonia, which often recurs due to dysphagia, worsens as patients move between homes, facilities, and hospitals. The impact of pre-hospital living setting on oral intake at discharge remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of the pre-hospital living setting on the nutritional intake route upon discharge in older patients with aspiration pneumonia.

Objective: To investigate changes in corneal astigmatism (curvatures and corneal sagittal height difference (C-sagDiff) at 8-mm chord) after temporary discontinuation from long-term spherical and toric orthokeratology (ortho-k) lens wear in a Chinese population.
Methods: Relevant data were retrieved from 110 patients (55 wearing spherical ortho-k lenses, 55 wearing toric ortho-k lenses) who have been undergoing ortho-k treatment for at least one year and stopped lens wear temporarily for scheduled lens replacement. The topographic and refraction data at baseline and post-discontinuation was collected for all the patients.
