In the present study, by heating a quartz glass substrate having the dry residue of a 10 μL droplet of a solution of HAuCl and a counter substrate facing to the dry residue from room temperature to one hundred and several tens of degrees Celsius in 20 min in air, highly dense gold nanoparticles were produced on the counter substrate. A gold nanoparticle substrate produced by this simple method was utilized as a substrate for surface-enhanced Raman scattering analysis.

The efficiency of ultrafiltration (UF) of acidified skim milk (SM) is impaired by protein aggregation and mineral scaling. The aim of this study is to assess the potential of acidification by electrodialysis with bipolar membranes (EDBM), in comparison with citric acid (CA), prior to the UF process on filtration performance, fouling and composition of the protein concentrates. Electro-acidification, facilitated by a water-splitting reaction, decreased the pH of milk to ∼ 5.

Industrial hemp, one of the most widely available and extensively produced varieties, generates a substantial amount of waste in the form of hemp cellulose. This study uses a recycling method combining crushing and acid treatment to convert leftover hemp fiber into ultrafine powder. A scanning electron microscope (SEM), an atomic force microscope (AFM), Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to examine the morphology of acid-treated hemp fiber heated to 200 °C and crushed into powder.

On the African continent, Picrodendraceae are represented by four genera. Their intracontinental paleophytogeographic histories and paleoecological aspects are obscured by the lack of pre-Miocene fossils. For this study, late Eocene sediments from Kenya were investigated.
