Background And Aims: Loss of motor units in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy is difficult to assess by conventional nerve conduction due to collateral innervation. We aimed to assess the association between a motor unit number estimate (MUNE) derived from the compound muscle action potential (CMAP) scan using MScanFit and hand function and the clinical response to intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG).

Methods: Forty-nine CIDP patients and 52 control subjects were included.

Background: Neurodevelopmental conditions are highly heritable. Recent studies have shown that genomic heritability estimates can be confounded by genetic effects mediated via the environment (indirect genetic effects). However, the relative importance of direct versus indirect genetic effects on early variability in traits related to neurodevelopmental conditions is unknown.

'Muscular wisdom' revisited: Decaying rates of stimulation mitigate torque loss.

Exp Physiol

School of Kinesiology, Faculty of Health Sciences, The University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada.

During a sustained high-intensity isometric maximal voluntary contraction (MVC), declining motor unit firing rates (MUFRs) accompany torque loss. This decline (∼50% over 60 s) helps to maintain torque by preserving peripheral electrical propagation and matching the slowing contractile properties with torque loss (i.e.

Background: Data on trauma burden and outcome varies amongst the nine South African Provinces. In Limpopo Province there is a paucity of data which this study aimed to quantify and characterise the severe trauma burden in the province.

Methods: A retrospective chart review for all patients with injury severity score (ISS) > 16 over a 6-year period (Jan 2015-Dec 2020) at two central hospitals in Limpopo province.

Background: Lateral epicondylitis is caused by overuse and manifests as pain, weakness, and difficulty with object manipulation. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and dextrose injections have shown promise in reducing pain and improving function.

Hypothesis: PRP is more effective for force precision control of the extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB) muscle than dextrose injection for patients with chronic lateral epicondylitis (CLE).
