Objectives: Klotho, an anti-aging protein, has been identified to control tissue inflammatory responses. The objective of this research is to determine the linkage between soluble Klotho (S-Klotho) level and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII).

Methods: Eligible participants with complete information of S-Klotho level and SII were selected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES). Subsequently, weighted multivariate linear regression and subgroup analysis were carried out to evaluate the association.

Results: Totally, 11,108 adults with complete data on S-Klotho level, SII and other important covariates were included in final analysis. Multivariate liner regression revealed that high level of S-Klotho was associated with low level of SII after multivariate adjustments (β=-0.08, 95%CI:-0.10- -0.05, P < 0.01). When classifying S-Klotho into tertiles, participants in S-Klotho tertile 3 (Q3) showed a decrease in SII level compared with those in the lowest tertile (Q1) (β=-45.44, 95%CI:-64.41- -26.47, P < 0.01 ). The negative associations remained significant regardless of age and gender, and varied depending on smoking status and BMI subgroups.

Conclusion: S-Klotho level was negatively related to SII after controlling for covariates. Further studies need to validate current findings and explore the fundamental mechanisms.

The relationship between the weight-adjusted waist circumference index (WWI) and the senescence-inhibitory protein Klotho remains unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between WWI and soluble Klotho (s-Klotho). This study analyzed 9,928 participants based on the 2007-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease prevalent in the elderly. Currently, the relationship between the senescence inhibitor Klotho and OA remains unclear. This study investigated the relationship between serum soluble Klotho (S-Klotho) and OA.

Article Synopsis
  • Soluble alpha Klotho (s.Klotho) is a potential marker for predicting outcomes in chronic kidney disease (CKD), specifically related to glomerular filtration rate (GFR) decline, and vascular and bone health.
  • A study involving 107 CKD patients showed significant differences in GFR decline based on s.Klotho deficiency levels, with severe deficiency (Grade 4) linked to the greatest reduction in GFR and elevated risk of death and need for renal replacement therapy.
  • The research also found that higher s.Klotho levels were associated with better vascular health, as indicated by correlations with the Ankle Brachial Pressure Index and carotid intimal medial thickness.

Background And Objective: Klotho is a protein that is closely related to human aging. Soluble Klotho (S-Klotho) is a circulating protein, and its level decreases in response to systemic inflammation. The relationship between the platelet/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (PHR), an emerging inflammatory index, and S-Klotho concentrations is still unclear.

Klotho, an anti-aging protein, is believed to participate in metabolic diseases and play a potential protective role by regulating insulin sensitivity. This study aimed to explore the relationship between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index (a simple marker of insulin resistance) and serum soluble Klotho (S-Klotho) levels. The cross-sectional study comprised 5237 adults aged 40-79 years who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) 2007-2016.
